And I wouldn't say that bases have a lack of purpose, as long there is some RP behind it bases work just fine.
Look at the base infront of the Alaska Gate which was one of the first bases to restrict access into a spesific system, though I don't know if it still stands today, then there are all those "storage bases" from IC/GMG IMG and Bowex, I would say bases arn't useless.
“This font is good people said, this font is awesome others said, I say it works well enough to waste 2 seconds of your life reading this.”
Bases do really seem to bring out the worst in people who don't have a strong sense of self control.
The last base siege I was on we were engaged repeatedly by the same Zoner BS repeatedly undocking from the base being assaulted until eventually an admin had to come on and ban the account. Still, didn't stop him coming back on his RNS account ... and then repeatedly attempting to restock the base with the same type of transport ship with the same guns, cargo and equipment only the name was slightly different every time it got blown appart trying to rush dock the base in the 1/4 of a second the shields were down.
I do think some restrictions would be nice, even if they're only minor.
A brilliant addition but at the same time requiring so much grinding that one can ask if it's even healthy to maintain one. (as i read in the OP that Synts his real life is suffering from his base building endeavours.)
They steal way too much time from people maintaining them (and before i hear group effort, afaik group effort never lasts long on disco, eventually it's always the same people that are expected to take care of things.) and they require a ridiculous amount of capspam and time to destroy them, crippling the server in its progress.
I wish I had some constructive criticism on how to improve this but I really have no clue how.
I am sure the devs have some changes in mind though.
Anyway I believe there already have been enough discussions adressing the flaws of the current way bases are implemented.
Synts indeed does a incredible amount of work just to please other people , that deserves respect , but please man , think of yourself first.
I'd rather see people simply enjoying this game how they want instead of seeing them grind for hours and hours every day , just to make other people happy.
During one siege a group of 10 people where I was part of stayed ingame for more than 12 hours.
At the time we were insanely motivated and yes , it was something special.
On the other hand it's totally mental, crazy devotion like this to a videogame ... thát's in fact what brings out the worst in people.
Thanks for all the relpies and as you can imagine i do not a agree with all.
The purpose of this Corsair player base was not to seal off the jumphole it is meant to be a base of operations for piracy in Bretonia.
Supplies were not only shipped by [X] - a Samura trading group which had build up a connection to the Corsairs by supporting Crete and shipping Artefacts long before the construction of Puerto del Diablo - there were also several Freelancers, Junkers and others involved.
All after all the teamwork was great - Kudos to anyone involved.
And it was not destroyed by reengagers (since when can repairships and immortal bombers kill a base? Neglection kills bases).
Chuck Norris did it.
But as we know: Cannon > Norris

My critics are but:
Sadly there was no good RP regarding the power trading.
Trading in the last leg was completely ooc - mind my Junker hauler while all [X] were banned from Bret?
We switched power/metagaming between traders/fighters - and me even reengaged... (I'm sorry for that!)
And sadly there was no real roleplay regarding story and such about the station - just for the records.
All in all: Thanks hermanos and gringos!
Daron my friend, you was mostly there and there was'nt power trading at all , we were flying with [X] tagged ships and they all was with samura id, all was inRP and we got FR5.
Like you said :
"Supplies were not only shipped by [X] - a Samura trading group which had build up a connection to the Corsairs by supporting Crete and shipping Artefacts long before the construction of Puerto del Diablo - there were also several Freelancers, Junkers and others involved." they all were inRP. and Junkers and Samura do not ever flown togheter.
and yes again : "The purpose of this Corsair player base was not to seal off the jumphole it is meant to be a base of operations for piracy in Bretonia." yes, that base was meant to bring up again cargo piracy in Bretonia.
and what about reengaging , when I was in the game, then no one did not do it , I will not allow it, ever. I dont know when you did that, saddly, that not nice.
All the Corsairs bases that I built, have some purpose,
Sol = Gamma protection, Diablo= Piracy in bretonia , Academia = Fighting school/ Casablanca protection , they are not lolwut bases.
I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!

Everything you said about the bases in your post is totaly right. The time it takes for them to be build, maintained and destroyed is really a lot but its necessary. If we all want a possible change maybe we can start by giving a reasonable proposals.
Here a simple idea of mine how to fix the bases without causing too much trouble for the devs and the players:
-Leave everything as it but make the base builder ship given only by admin. Before you spam me read forward ->
There should be a thread where everyone can request to build a base but the base builder ship will be given only by presenting a good RP background behind this construction. That can be done by filling a simple template with few questions (created by the admins or the devs) which can also accept or deny the requests depending on the overall information behind them.
In that way the admins will maintain order by "removing" the possibility of an OORP base to be build somewhere and cause problems in both RP and OORP.
What means an OORP base? - A base build in system, where it cant be build in RP, by a faction/independents, which are using lawful/unlawful characters just to make the things more simple. Such a base - which dont have the approval of admins, official factions and most of the other players is an OORP base which wont bring anything good but problems. That can be prevented by the above idea.
Opinions about all this?
PS: Since this thread name is "Corsair base in Cam" I will say few things about this. Such a base, in Cambridge, build by the corsairs is equal to Armed Forces base build in Omega-5. Those that know the lore and actually are trying to follow the RP of their factions would definitely support that. It may be possible for the players to build not 1 but 10 bases all over cambridge, but will that follow the RP or make the overall image more better?
