I'm for setting it to GMT time. Although it doesn't really matter in the end, I'd say more people are familiar with GMT than the various American time zones (EST etc)
So...Who's gonna make it real? I could do it...in about five years.

Sorry for the double post, i feel that i should cast my vote for the idea of having a "Sirius time". This is a role play server so lets make this clock fit with that. People will learn when their time zone correlates with the game clock. I really do think we need this badly as it will allow for people in the forums to set role play events at the Sirius time and I think that will increase turn out for all of them. As well as has been noted help the Administrators out when marking rule violations. I can't do this myself so Im calling on everyone to help make the push for this vital upgrade to the game.
This can be easily simple to do as well. Simply have a program that can overlap DirectX, replace the Freelancer.exe shortcut with an application that will start both the game and the directx overlay and done! ^_^
This is a great idea. Lately, there has been some confusion with the Corsair vs. Hessian fights because of Daylight Savings. With a standard server time locked on GMT, people will arrive on time and there will be little to no more confusion.
I think we should call it SST, or Sirius Standard Time. Right now it should be June 3, 2008 C.E., 2132 hours GMT. In SST, we could make it:
June 3, 816 A.S., 2132 hours SST
