GB vs GB combat is also weird now, somewhat. Solaris just hit because of the insane speed before the update.

The small Gunships that died really fast before can not dodge practically limitless under regular GB turret fire. The Bnose is as deadly as it used to be, at least in the hand of a very skilled pilot. Kudos, here, to IIuvia.Acida. 2 bombers, and a GB... and no chance to get your shields down and do damage for real.

I agree, It's partly because solarises are now de facto almost useless, and slow 990m/s turrets can't hit even bigger boats at range good enough, and even less so smaller boats. What to do? I would support reversing to the 4.85 balance. If not, then either slightly buff basic/faction turret speed, or better just increase solaris range to something useful. 495m isn't working good enough even against snubs and low range makes them even more useless against bigger targets. 1500m/s was more or less absurd, but 700-800m range seems quite reasonable. Then lighter and bigger gunboats would be more balanced again, since bigger boats have luxuty using solaris while lighter ones have no powercore to support them good enough. Gunboats are supposed to be mostly antisnub, and with current turret balance, mainly solaris range, gunboats aren't while still being useful anticap. Like ... illogical?

P.S. Kudos Jack, those were really cool fights today. Perhaps I am really becoming a filthy merc as I hugged the sun corona in the earlier fight Big Grin

the problem was that GBs could just join snubs fights and with autoaim tactic gun down snubs with little to no effort.

495 m range make Solaris a defensive weapon. Maybe a little overtly defensive. I think giving it some 600m-700m would've been fine.

And as for basic's range nerf - it was called for. Gunboats became bane of all ships with the ability to out range cruisers (since cruiers weapons that are actually able to hit GBs have far less range).

Something was just wrong with the gunboat. How you know it? When even I can hold off 4 snubs on my own using TS and TZ, that's how.

though I am in favor of reverting GBs to how they were like in 4.85, or at least removal of TZ/

Gunboats having their old toys would be fine if perhaps they weren't able to turret zoom for auto aim. I remember in the days of old, back when TZ and TS were a dream that there were like 2 or 3 people flying gunboats that became somewhat of a legend simply because being really good in one back then took serious skill. Now the skill gap is a lot lesser and getting good isn't as hard with the new things we have.

I bet that people that throw those numbers and call it balance does not really play the game.Otherwise we can assume that they are insane. Nothing new sadly.

Then why each balance check result underpowered and useless guns or overpowered and useful vs each ship class guns?
I mean it is simple maths in this case nothing special Solaris at 650-700m should work fine, not at 495 or at 1200, both are equally idiotic.
Why they does not nerf the Freighter/GB/Small Transp acceleration/strafing/momentum so they does not make too sharp unpredictable course changes and give them proper guns to compensate? 1000ms basics cannot hit good GB TSer not because the guns itself are bad but because the ship moves too idiotic.
If you calculate the huge amount of missed DPS that would hit the said classes you would even bring back the older better GB shields.
