Hang on a second. I'm sure not all traders are like this. Or am I the excpetion to your rule?
Quote:I would really like to know why a pirate is scared of a phantom?
Maybe, it's the fact that the Phantoms are the only ones attacking traders.
Quote:This thread is to discuss how to get traders to do RP with pirates/terrorists more instead of them running...
Yeah, right. What's a train pilot to do? Stop and fight? That would be funny. The only option then is to fix the trains succeptibility to cruise disruptors. But, I don't think that's the problem. Honestly, I think you just want to have it easy for the pirates. I mean how easy is it to blow up a train? No challenge there right? It's catching them that should be the challenge.
True, traders have been getting a pass on the RP. I think those that F1 out are not truly playing the game. But have faith Marauder, not all traders are going to F1 just for a Phantom. And for those traders that do F1 at first sight of a Phantom...WTF!?!?! :rtfm: ...or you could just take Finius' advice :P
I have been attacked as a trader, I think either twice or three times. Every time the demand was the same; 1 million credits or your life.
Me, I just pay 'em. Much simpler, and I get the money back when I finish the route anyway. Even a small Transport get's over a million credits on the good runs, so a million to my Large Train is next to nothing. And like I said, it's simple. Heck, make a deal with the pirates. Instead of 1 mill, give 'em three and tell 'em not to bother you for a month or so. If they're role-playing enough to stop you, they should be willing to make a deal that will pay better.
This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren
Ahhh, now if i was attacked this way, with a demand for cash, i would meet the demand, a solution that benefits both partys and will not draw the attention of my clutch-mates (my other characters) its all RP with me you see :D

Removing trade lanes in edge world space would make it harder for trains to run from danger. Now being cruise disrupted means something, as its the primary means to cross from one jump gate to another. Lowering shield and hull strength (even getting rid of shields completely) would make surviving an attack a tricky proposition. A lone transport simply wouldn't have the firepower and armor to withstand an NPC attack. The end result is that making one of these high profit trade runs carries a considerable amount of risk with it.
Now traders need consistent protection in order to make these runs, so hiring player escorts becomes the norm. The lone trader gives way to the escorted convoy, promoting teamwork and community building. This also makes pirate verses trader engagements more balanced as each side has a capable fighting force.

I got a better idea: remove every heavy weapon from the game, so trains actually have a chance when fighting. Of course this also goes for all the battleships, gunboats, and whatnot.
Or you could also remove the shields for all fighters (including battleships, gunboats, and whatnot), and of course also halve the hull or more, and reduce the maneuverability, then we (the traders) might actually have a chance of blowing you up.
Now doesn't that sound fair? :)
No?

Nope, you're not the only one. :)
I've never (as far as I can recall) hung around NY or F1'ed. I just accept I might get attacked, and if I do then I just run. Worked so far.
Then again Ive only been attacked once, and I didnt even notice it at the time. :P

A helping manual for pirates ?
How to make them become more successful ?
Why don't we trust the pirates' brain ?
If one pirate can't stop a trader - why don't they form an union and do it with some pirates ?
Ship-discussion.... let the pirates find the most effective ship... and USE it...
Haven't they choosen to be pirate ?
Hell, then they should know, it's harder than trading...
I will not tell or help a pirate to survive - if he's not able - his wife should do his work !
If he's successful and knows how to stop me in a freighter - well - I'm the first one to pay and congratulate...

The problem isn't that "we pirates be" stupid and can't catch ya, its that when we do or even think about it, people F1 out of the system.
Pirates cannot group at all, really. Once two or more pirates group, traders from all over Sirius disappear into safer ships. Also, if a pirate enters the same system as a trader, the trader will F1.
I'm not against removing the "select new character" and "select new server" options form the menu if it'll stop traders from F1'ing so save some cash.
I've found that another problem is becoming that Large Trains can mount gunboat shields... And, as a matter of fact, people do. This didn't matter much back when gunboat shields were, to say, almost useless. But it does now.
Traders are not cowards at all... but if some of them are...
And - uh - didn't know gunbouat-shields fit... - then there should be a law or change in game: shields only fit on those ships, they are made for !
I can share Hoodoo's thought.
But he didn't mention the F1-thing.
Pirates have to be here, same like traders, mercs or police... - therefor they have to get the same rights for success
If there is a possibility to say leaving the game can only be done in bases or on planets - damn: YES
I'm trying to get pirates some decent RP with traders.
As a Phantom I am a terrorist, which means (to me at least) that I am REQUIRED kill traders, and pretty much everything else, on sight or at least try to  .
It's a bit hard to kill a ship that cruises off as soon as it jumps into a system and you have to be careful about shooting them when they are getting near to a jumphole in case you dock-rape them.
With a jumpgate it's easier cos they are sitting still if they are in the queue or lining up with the gate to jump.
My point about players logging off was that lately it's not just traders that are running away to hide in NY or logging off.
Yes I have seen 2 or 3 players continuing their trade runs when theres phantoms on. But it's 2 or 3 out of the 7 or 8 that are on most of the time.
It's hard to be a pirate when there's very few high profit runs that all you lawful traders CAN use, mostly because:-
if your rep is right most of the NPCs are shooting you on sight,
you get swarmed by the BHG at every jumphole,
your choice of ships is extremly limited, my bloodfrenzy character can buy either a huggy or an osiris and thats the ONLY 2 cap-ships he has access to.
Then traders moan when they are asked for a lousy 1 million credits when they are using a trade run that makes them at least 10 times that much in a single run, thats not including the fact that most traders have over 20 million on them most of the time anyhow.
So do you finally see why I'm getting fed up with people running away at the first sign trouble, complaining about being attacked and getting asked for cash, especially when it's several systems away from them!
Personally I Think making A Enforceable F1 rule on traders sounds like a good idea..
If youre playing as a trader you take the risk of being attacked... if you are attacked deal with it and get over it... I look at it this way... if you get blown up; Meh just means you have to do an extra run.... diddums...........
Anyways Pirates have to make money anyways.... and ok say they demand 1 or 2 mil what the hell people cough up....... its not that much in the whole of things........ And if you refuse to pay up thats your problem......
Personally I think being chased by phantoms is fun... and I quite happily provoke them sometimes if I am board..... Though when I do deliberately provoke them I drop to one account and leave that others sitting in dock.. But I am sure no one will complain about that......Because if I do get attacked with all 3 accounts on I leave all 3 accounts on
