A Giant grin spreads across Hyun's face as he pushes three nano mesh buttons floating above his arm. The room lights die instantly and Hyun's arm tattoo lights up and dances off of his arm. It circles the room once and then explodes into a million points of light. as the lights settle into a position they explode to show a 3D image for everyone in the room.
"This brothers is our future. I give you Highlane 66. Through several days of pouring over Sunny's diagrams and creating the data I finally have a 3D image.
I would like you all to help contribute to its construction. This is ready to go Sunny. All we are waiting on is IMG to deliver the Items on our requisition order which is right here."
He says as a file floats across the room and lights its self on Sunny's personal terminal.
"Excellent... excellent... very nice work Hyun. Your skills are impressive." Sunny smirked back and the lights when back to normal after there was a display of holographic ships flying through the rings to animate a race scenario. "I see you have been working a lot and hard... researching as well. Giving it some thought I would say it is time to finish the starflie project. I think you are ready with your research and you need now an extra hand..." He grins a bit. "Besides, someone else has to keep a look on that chick, anyway. When the project is over this new racing ship will be the fastest to fly through the track!" He chuckles and grabs a drink and downs it.
"I suppose someone else can aid us too. I might be able to contact an IMG engineer as well that might be interested."
It was another session down at the Archangel chapel. Drinks were being passed around and emptied, laughs and giggles were mixing around, and the smell of burnt synthetic marijuana was present in the air. The men gathered and started to take their seats around the common table as Sunny came into the room. By the looks of things, he didn't look to be in his best moods.
Some men quickly caught on to the president's mood and quickly scrambled to take their seats while others followed their lead. The room soon became quiet as Sunny lit a spiff and puffed in the air.
"Gentlemen... my Brothers..." , he started and the room was quiet and all attention was on him. "...we have a new threat against a club. A threat threat that will try to harm our partying and business to it's core."
The room started to rumbled as the members talked amongst each other in surprise. Who could it be that is new?
"You all know the Outcasts and how they are a force to be met with. Now we have a new group in-front of our headlights, and they are already making plans against us as we speak! The Gas Miners Guild!"
The room was quite for a moment and all stared at Sunny before they noticed a smirk on the side of his lip. Suddenly the room erupted with laughter including Sunny along with it.
"Haha... a group of miners... challenging us with... ahahaa.. Alright alright... I know it sounds [removed] up." He said to quiet down the members again. "These miners are not the hegemon runners we usually know. They have their own claimed.... military."
The room bursts out laughing some more and they all drink to cool off.
Sunny resumes. "Alright alright that is enough. Serious now. They are a threat and have claimed they will want to take over Newport from us. As you know Newport is a key location and HQ to our Exotic Entertainment business, not to mention we have a duty to look after the station on behalf of the freelancer civilians out there. That base cannot go no where.
"I have already sent a relay to the corsairs for assistance in helping to fend off the angry miners. Additionally, we are at war with them as well. At the moment, however, we are on the DEFENCIVE. I do not want us to fire the first strike unless you detect them as a threat."
Sunny takes another puff from his spiff and presses a button on the table. Suddenly, a hologram appears above.
"The indicated blue zone is where we are to patrol. We will need to make sure our supplies get through any blocking by the GMG. If they are to come into the yellow zone you are to give one warning. The red zone means you are free to fire at will as they have come close enough to be considered dangerous to the base. Take record of what happens. I will reward you for taking care of business, and also keep in mind the corsairs will not mind paying as well for some target swiping....
"BUT remember! We don't fire unless needed. For now. Further orders will come as this situation progresses.
"In addition, I am also uploading other maps to your data pads. Look at them at your own leisure. Remember, Blue is patrol area, Yellow is warning area, and Red is where you can fire when you feel is needed. More info on this will be in the Archangel Code Book."
It was another session at Church but not just any-ordinary one.
This time, Sunny had sent out a message that the things discussed would be more important than usual.
The men already gathered around the table, and others still were standing up, walking around and discussing what the President might have been thinking of talking about. The room fell to half the loudness as Sunny walked into the room and when he sat down it was moments until the room was silent. Sunny spoke:
"Brothers... Ladies... I have called you all to discuss something to the club that has become quite an issue. Something that has forced our trajectory to turn. The issue revolves around the locals around here that compete with us... as well as these virgins I mentioned..." He grimaced and spat on the floor. The room was still.
"For a while now I have been quite patient with the Junkers, especially those Congress people... you all remember Rico and Bruce. Fine lads... even a cousin as if to me at times. Well it seems they have with their new leadership and new members broken what we have built. Their own decision... even when I gave them a chance to talk it over with me." He grinned. "You should have heard one of them... he couldn't shut up and hold back his insults after every sentence he took. What a coward.
"I had thought they had turned to cease ugly relations with us, but time and time again we have seen they are full of crap in what they say. Their promises are empty and their greed blocks their thinking. It's a shame. Heh... it's too bad too... you know I heard they are in the slave and cardi business ... " There where whispers that erupted and Sunny let it simmer before he hit his fist on the table again.
"I think I have had enough of these backstabbers, and what really ticked me off is that they hire those foul virgin Auxesia to do their bidding for them. HA. You know... I could stand it for some time, but just recently they threatened and then later SHOT at one of our shuttles carrying our Exotic Entertainers!" The room erupted with shock and shouting, first hitting the table and grunts all around. Sunny spoke over them. "And to think that then they have the NERVE to SEND ME A MESSAGE and say they are going to TALK NICE to us!? You've got to be %$#@in' Kidding me!" The room got even louder, some laughing and others very angry.
"This is who we are dealing with. Two groups that are trying to take out not only us, but our women as well! I think it's time we teach these %$#@ers a lesson!"
Sunny looked around and invited with his gaze anyone to speak up.
While Church would be conducted every week, the events were not always of major importance and really mandatory. It was a time where members could get together, talk, and do deals among each other or settle some disputes or problems. While there were problems that had been discussed, non compared for what this discussion was about. As the members came in to the secret meeting room, they were all aware of what was going on. The threat was clear. Sunny would walk in a few minutes after everyone else. While usually the place was active with exotic entertainers service drinks, laughter, and jokes coming from one place to another, the room stank with serious atmosphere.
Sunny spoke out, breaking the silence as everyone watched and waited for him to begin.
"Bering Chapter. Brothers. I am sorry for your loss. We know it's all bull$#!t. Unfortunately, sooner or later it had to be done. The true colors of who we called our friends have been shown to us. It's a shame it had come about this way. Freeport 2 served as Bering's chapter. We will now be looking for a replacement."
Sunny stood up. The spotlight that was illuminating his face now only showed his jacket as he started to pace the room around the large table. "I had thought the Unioners would be a valuable Ally. They showed potential. Promise. I guess the simple request to have them 'fix' their puppet had failed for them. It's funny... you all saw the transmission, didn't you? They said we failed at diplomacy..."
He chuckled a little. The room was silent. Everyone knew it wasn't funny.
"Diplomacy... They wouldn't know diplomacy if it got stuck in their ass! If you give someone a slot in their plan, you %$#@in' better respect 'em. They had shown respect to all the other members of their little group, but us? Nothing. Even daring to insult us by offering to have us moved like refugees to their station. Yeah... so we could be watched over like dogs!" Sunny's fist moved to the table and slammed down hard. He sighed heavily and continued.
"Its funny... really funny that they have the nerve to tell us we are useless when I myself offer to help them in their little siege problem. Obviously, they ignore it. Obviously, it's like they say one thing when they really mean another. If they were really in danger, they would be looked for all the help and allies they could get! If they were really our friends, they would have cared to help and stick up for us against... Jimmy..." He spits on the floor and grinds the sole of his shoe on it. "&^%$ him. The bastard. I should have knocked him in the face.
"While it's in our interest to not show off our true potential, I sometimes fantasies what would happen if we were to set off Freeport 2 with one of our NEMP bombs. Better yet, a big giant finger to Unioners and Pacifica..." Sunny laughs, the room erupting in murmurs and nods or grunts.
"BUT... We're not stupid. I won't go down that road unless necessary. We're better off working on our mission objectives without all of sirius knowing our true potential. I called you all here for advice. Tell me your thoughts on what you'd like to do to the Unioners and their little group now that we will declare them as enemies to The Club. It's a shame to them that they think we are all just weak and good for nothing. It's yet another mistake they make."
Curtis stepped forward. Usually the old Rhienlander kept his peace during these talks but there was only one person in all of Sirius that is allowed to make Sunny upset. And that is Curtis. He walked over. "Vhile vwe ave already notified Liberty I feel ze unusual nudge to fly a small unidentified craft up to Pacifica and leave a burning present on zeir door step. Nosing too big; a NEMP here a NEMP zere; no one could tell ze difference. Place smell like space maids anyway." He said in his thick Rhienland accent. "Veazer or not ve use ze NEMP's zere needs to be pay back. I am sinking anoser Hogosha incident is in order. Along wis ze elegantly worded communique." He finished as he turned and sat back down.
Hyun Spoke up next. "Well I don't know about all that but we are close to getting the station powered and once that is done I will be able to start looking at new weapons and engines." He finishes quickly. "However I thinks a virus would have some fun with their system and it would most likely be fun to watch." He said before sitting down.
Gambit stood up. Visibly annoyed. He took a second to measure his words.
"I personally do not see this whole situation as a loss to the club. It is more of an opportunity. Bering is a dead end system with little or no connectivity and hardly any good routes to make credits off of. You want to take what has transpired as an insult? Then you should have been insulted months ago, instead of getting all wadded up in the panties about it now."
"Some off you may be looking at me and asking.....How did you let this happen Gambit?" He took a drag off of his cigarette. "You fellows aught to try taking on a separatist capital ship in snub and see how that works out for ya. One on one, we could have probably handled the situation better...maybe held our own, and even got some good licks in...but when you got at least 4 groups lining themselves up against ya, the decision is between stupidity and profitable survival. Personally I choose profitable survival."
"With that said......We should be about business and racing. Getting into a turf war over a dead end system with a low profit margin is not the smart play. We should be trying to make credits off of other peoples wars and not get bogged down into some pissing contest with an alliance of Protards that clearly out gun us."
"Do they deserve some payback?.....sure they do. But we do it smart....we take our time, we apply pressure through third parties and gather intel and then when we do make a move, we make sure the damage we do is enough to make them think twice about ever frackin with the club again."
"In the mean time, I have moved my credit making operations out to the New London system. And this seems like as good a time as any to make the following suggestion to the club and push it for a vote. I propose we move the Bering Chapter AFC out to Brettonia and take advantage of the war with the Frogs to earn some good credits as well as get on the good side of the Brets and Libs."
He stood there and looked around the room, waiting for someone to second his proposal and push it for a vote.
"I've nae been back for long, an I'm just a banger these days, nae a Chapter boss, yeah, but, it seems ta me tha club needs ta consolidate. I've nae heard from anyone out Coronado way since I come back, an Bering is where tha feces hits tha canopy right noo."
Christo nods respectfully to Gambit. "So, while tha old man an I may have had a friendly go in tha past, I say he's tha right oh it. There's a good go in Bretonia, an we can be positioned ta take advantage...
As for tha other bits, I donna know enough oh current politics ta make a pitch either way."
After a quick look about, Christo slouches back into his chair.
Sunny listens , walking fully around the table and then sitting back down in his seat, listening to the opinions. He nods from one to the other, but has a reply nagging on him to reply to Gambit, the Chapter Offical of Bering.
"You forget the importance of Bering Chapter and why our Chapters are situated in this way. It's not just out of convenience. Let me give you a review."
He reaches into his pocket and takes a fat cigar out, lighting it and speaking again. The room waited for him to continue.
"Coronado, Kepler, and Bering... each Chapter forming a point of a triangle. Each point a piece housing a member of The Deadly Trinity. At the top, Kepler: Exotic Entertainers. On the left, Coronado: Synthetic Marijuana. On the right, Bering: Nox. Take a look and you're see these pieces fall in place. Every chapter has it's part of what we primarily trade in for the big bucks."
He smokes again.
"Of course, there are other things as well, obviously, that the chapters do, but in origin, that is what they were to be for. Why is such a place? Well, aside from the systems having facilities to house us, the value lies in the fact that each location covered an enterance into Liberty. The center of the smuggling business. For us ... as well as our competition."
He leans closer, taking another breath.
"Coronado was the first. The gate way for a smuggler that would be carrying slaves or cardamine that would have to travel through if they were going to be efficient. The Chapter held and still holds a key spot in the route's interception. Next came Bering, providing a staging point of control from the galactic south. Finally, Kepler filled in what was left in terms of a gateway.
"So what is so important about Bering? While it doesn't usually have potential to be a location guarding slaves and cardamine, it does the next best thing. It seals the entry into Liberty for Artifacts, making smuggling into Liberty by competitors all the more harder. While we were allied with the Junkers, we didn't have much thought into it, but once we became enemies... that Chapter location is key. Their Artifact trade becomes at risk.
"If you look at the map of Sirius, you will see that the most efficient route a Junker would take from Manhattan to Gamma would be through the Bering corridor. It's just that simple. With Bering being a bother, we are able to use Kepler in effect, providing it to be a viable alternative entry. That is potentially why it makes sense for us to bring in our supplies up to here. It's a gateway for both the north with nox and the south with artifacts to enter through with the most control.
"If we were to give up Bering, we would be opening the gates for our competition to be given a chance to burst into the Black Market. Something I don't want to happen. While you may argue they were already doing it, I am arguing our presence made it more harder for them to achieve this. As such, with them removing us from the picture, they are free to make money. Lots of it. Take note as well that in their treaty they wanted to shove down our throats, they wanted protection from this very thing. They already wanted to eliminate us from the equation. For us to loose money.
"Like it or not, our main money comes from The Big Three as well as Artifacts. Letting our competition through would be exactly what we don't want. I don't want us to just move on to Bretonia."
He pulls in another breath from his cigar.
"Furthermore, don't you %$#@in' tell me, Gambit, that this should have happened months ago. This was your %$#@in' responsibility. Where the %$#@ were you?! And then I had to figure it out on my own while hearing about it myself. $#@&in' hell!
And then you tell me you are moving operations to New London? You're taking income from the Coronado Chapter then, arn't you? Did you give a thought to ask that chapter if it's all good?"
Sunny looked annoyed but then sighed. "Can't blame you if the Coronado Chapter isn't poking around to see you sucking their income. I see there is no one in the stop of Chapter Official there. Well?" He looks around the room.
