Never tried out this game. I've never really gotten into Star Trek - I'm not a big fan of the ship design. Is that being too narrow minded? Are there enough redeeming factors to get into it?
I hope that either all of us or none of us are judged by the actions of our weakest moments. But rather, by the strength we show when, and if, we're ever given a second chance.

In my humble opinion, if you're not a trekkie, STO isn't really worth getting into. While it shows that the people behind it are passionate about the IP itself and the game has some cool gameplay concepts going for it, it also suffers from massive technical debt and uses fairly aggressive monetization strategies. Admittedly the latter is likely how it managed to stay afloat for so long, but it is also difficult to excuse putting up with it if you're not a fan of Trek itself.
But on the other hand, it is a nice casual lightshow that lets you relax and make reputation go up while you commit space genocide, so it might click with you despite the flaws.
I played this game so much and spent too much money on it, now I can take any energy type and do stupid damage with it. I can even take in t4 ships into advanced TFOs and do more than 200k dps I could prabably do more than that if I really wanted too.
