Somehow I think they would be able to bombard the ground from space, maybe the weapons they would used are just not effective in space so you cant fire them, like some sort of bomb that drops down through the atmosphere. That and Swift is right about not knowing what a K is.

Well,I was thinking of something that might give alot more sense to ground warfare.
You see, there's a mod for the game half-life 2,whose name is Eternal Silence 2.
Its original purpose was to confront two teams and make each other destroy the other one's capships, both from inside and outside.
There are also maps inside bases, with control points to capture.

The weapons are numerous and within the spirit of Freelancer.
I pictured an event like the one in Aomori station ; It would have been awesome on this game.

Well,I'm aware of the problems it would bring, including people having to pay for half life 2,so I don't hope too much after it,but I thought it would be interesting, especially for those who played it.

Ignoring the debate on what a K represents distance wise.....

Elgatodiablo was planning on making a Halo trial mod to represent Freelancer.

I highly doubt he is still working on it, but you could ask him.

Edit: Fixed link

Ah the capship destruction idea, that actually comes from Battlefield 2142, a game mode called Titan. The objective is to blow up the enemy Titan warship using AntiTitan missiles or killing it from inside blowing up the core. I really like the idea, just needs a FPS base to start with.

Yeah,I remembered that game, played it for a while. This game mode was great, unfortunately there were no space fights.
But maybe you've heard of the First Strike mod, which turned it into a Star Wars mod, with space battles. If this possible for starwars, then,we could try with Freelancer...

The idea is to make a Battlefield mod for Freelancer, not a Freelancer mod for Battlefield.

Or from Battlefront 2, in which case you could pulverise an enemy capital ship from the outside with fighters and bombers, or take an assault craft inside their hangar bay and take out it's key components from the inside.

If anything, energy weapons such as lasers would be adversely affected by the atmosphere. It would take physical (or otherwise) bombs at that range. Or even more power. But whatever, this is a science fiction future. If we can have evil ancient space Gelatin, anything is possible.

Well it's not going to be a thousand kilometres in relation to the size of the ships is it?

But unfortunately, FL is not a world of scalular accuracy.

It's unfortunate really, on many other engines this would have been a piece of cake, absolute ease, but sadly the FL engine doesn't take to kindly to wildly different mods. Especially not without the Source Code.

i think Unreal tournament 2004 version would be a good platform for this, as its requirements are quite low and i think it's relatively easy to mod (i know there are hundreds of mods available). Plus alot of the maps are on space stations etc already. And it's cheap to buy!
