I have a dragon GB. I known what kind of damage it can made to a transport. I also was already attacked, in my large train, by a nomad gunboat (and escaped).
And about cruisers, its unrealistic that a transport with 4500 cargo should have, with a class 6 capital armor upgrade, more armor than a unarmored cruiser. This is my opinion.
About so-called "massacres", just look at the fact that lawfuls are using cruisers and battleships to attack traders who are smuggling. So, if you want to flame someone about it, flame the lawfuls first. And dont tell me that it is because they are on patrol etc. this will sound like a excuse to me.
To Yngen:
I can say to you: traders should be more smart, and check the chat screen more frequently to see if theres no hostile in the middle of the route.
You said that in Freelancer unlawfuls have worse equipment etc, thats wrong. In vanilla, corsairs have some of the best weapons available in game. In Discovery things change in favour of the lawfuls, just compare lane hacker and bretonian weapons of the same class.
To Hood:
Dont come to me showing rules at my face like I was some ignorant. I known the rules. And if I dont left, at least I reduced my playing time...drastically. Im accessing these forums because I still have contact with some people, through PMs. I play respecting the rules, all IDs in place. However, I still can criticize these rules.
@Nightfall, to facilitate understanding. It is far easier for all if I leave links. I did the heavy lifting and there cannot be calls of "I can't find it." In addition, I can understand erasing, but refrain from entering my posts, thanks.
Ok...
Well, it is painfully obvious that my words have caused some stir with some of you who have quite rapidly replied to contradict what I have said.
First of all I did not mean to offend anyone. (Harley I didn't mean it so literally but that was a lot of bickering in the beginning between you and F wolf. Despite it becoming quite one sided.)
Second of all, I understand that there are probably issues that the lawfuls have to deal with just as the unlawfuls deal with them. I was merely saying is that what I have experienced as a smuggler(which has occupied most of my starting time) is that a smuggler will have no shot even if they make the dock because all of a sudden you are quite literally trapped(most unpleasant). My questions and standpoints are merely from the side of disco that I have seen, so yes exploring the other avenues would help make a more informed evaluation of the rules, but these are questions i needed answered before i continued on without knowing.
for Doom: Hey I never said they should prance around letting me do anything, i merely said for the sake of any smuggler having a shot that something needed a change. I tried display an idea that was feasible and fit well with the role play. The loophole i mentioned would be to have 2 patrols running simultaneously with them switching when one got to the previous patrol in the system that needed it. This would simply make smuggling possible where as more recently there has been some fighters, a couple cruisers(1-2 depending), and a battleship all blockading texas. That is ridiculous, i don't care what you say.
for yngen: Ok despite the stern lecture at first;), thank you for the welcome. I have no reservations saying that your post was most well written and the points you made probably put to shame most of my claims but still. I will welcome your cool headed advice in further heated discussions =D

Oh come on...u took my post wrongly...in 90% cases on server when trader dies it is because pirate killed him...Traders are very rarely killed by lawful forces (although it did happen to me...it seems that Bs don't like smuggling in their system also:P)...
Also, if u wish to smuggle large train isn't the best choice for the job, it is simply too slow...i recommend large transport ...
About trains hull strength...it is only thing that train has...it has no speed, no weapons and no shields that can match attacking cruiser...maybe it is unrealistic...but gives traders better chances...

Again..artificially created loopholes?...If u wish only to dock and sell undisturbed most of the time, become trader...don't smuggle... once u made your name on server as smuggler every house faction will be on the look out for you...and when they see u in system or near it do u really expect them to let know criminal go in peace?...Good smuggler creates loop holes...he don't expects police to make them for him....
U can always pay some small amount of money to some pirate or merc to create diversion while u dock and see your cargo...that would be making some RP...not only buy and sell procedure...i only say to take a look in different aspects to smuggling...
First and foremost, I would like to thank all those who have participated so far and I hope that people will yet again pick up the topic and keep this debate going.
Secondly and on a more personal bias: I agree with what prontera had to say. The more I read the posts before that the more I have come to agree with your points of view. Thank you and I hope you might get a chance to dissect all the arguments when you get the time.
Thirdly, I hope that the members of this community will yet again strive for answers to the questions on "debate". We have had some good point/counter point so far but I think we can do better, I hope we can get more opinions, perhaps even an admin's opinion*hint hint*.
Other than that I apologize for my long silence(absence), my life is just starting to catch up with me again..
Krenshaw. glad somone else could ask some of these questions. however they are for more lengthy then they realy need to be and not worth my time to read past half of page 2. just incase you dident know *you probly do* but they can make almsot any rule they want for the system they controll so it is kinda hard to know jsut what the rules are sometimes. *some have changed recently as well ill add*
and as a fact ive learned. all the old memebrs and facctions who play this own it. so its very hard to do your own thing without having 20 people KOS you for something like this. example. a fighter bomber b ship and verious others against a larg train:P. but try not to ask to many questions in public ill sugest. since it usualy ends up in flames or well ignored by admins. or a lot of argument that could easily be avoided
on a differnt note. if u like smuggling i know of some routes u may wanna try, you may PM me if you like for them.
and yes i know you all hate me. if u wanna fill your spare time with hate so be it.
forgive my spelling. dont care to spend much time typing. and sorry for the lengthy post.
Ok, I've just seen this thread. Let me attempt to explain.
Discovery RP is for role play as a faction or individual. It is NOT a "lets all become NPC's" server. Unlike NPC's we have memories, and like the military (or more likely, the police) in real life, if you commit a crime, we will catch you for it, whether or not you are doing it at that very precise moment. So, if you dock after being scanned with a hold full of drugs, I would have thought you would realise that undocking would be a rather foolish thing to do.
Smuggling is a risky business. You risk your cargo everytime you run, and if you get caught, you go on the black list.
Now, blockades, I hear you scream... Think about it. If the military realise that there are alot of drugs coming in in on particular area, what do you think they would do? Walk away and carry on elsewhere? Don't think so. They lock it down. They prevent it in anyway possible. Seems like a sensible thing to do really.
And now about cruisers/battleships... DON'T SMUGGLE WHEN A BATTLESHIP IS ON!! Thats my message of the day. Do you think that the military is going to care if a destroyer comes across a little fishing boat full of drugs? "Oh noes! It's not a fair fight! Let's leave them to it..."
Have a little sense. And stop trying to make it easier for yourself to smuggle. It's supposed to be risky. That's real roleplay. And quit whining if you get blown up. It happens to everyone.
