We continuously expand the rights of capships to pew-pew as they see fit, thus making the role of smaller ships, quite frankly, almost entirely irrelevant. There's really no gameplay advantage to playing a smaller ship or a police ship now if you want to play a lawful character on this server (I challenge you to list 3).
We started down this path by allowing military ships to do everything police could do and more and consequently observed the death of most police factions on the server. Now we're moving to discourage factions from fielding smaller ships to enforce contraband regulations.
And we wonder why everyone prefers to fly military cap ships and not play the police fighter pilot.
Really. Name something that an [LN] Battleship can't do now that an LPI Patriot can.
The alternative is pirate transports attacking gunboats in front of capital ships and thumbing their noses. Well no. Pirates can still rob folks in transports, it just got riskier is all. As for Police factions, stoppin g the Militaries doing things didn't actually make the police factions any more alive. The BPA, and the LPI, and the KSP are all still very much alive as well. So your arguments fall a little flat.
Oh and one thing a Patriot can do that a battleships can't? Stop the transport running away.

So then what is the gameplay need for police factions? I don't want to argue with the admins because I know you put in many more hours than I do and have probably thought this out thoroughly. This is just a question that's been bugging me for a while and this development has resurrected it for me, so to speak.
Perhaps a police faction member can answer this. I'm genuinely curious to know what police light fighters can do that military destroyers can't (note: edited to say destroyers, which have CD's, instead of battleships, which don't).

They choose to play them, now that is a discussion foe elsewhere, so please unless you have something else to say about this TRIAL rule change, please avoid posting here.

Well, they can turn quickly. CDs are nice too.
As far as I'm concerned, if the rest of the team wants to chime in they're free, police factions are here because digital anvil put them here. If you want to RP a cop, you RP a cop. If you wanna RP a navy brat, you RP a navy brat.
We didn't enact this change with the cops or navy in mind. We enacted as a response to a problem which has been developing for some time now. Simple as.
So you have been killing transports outside of the usual exceptions? No you haven't so this changes nothing as far as you are concerned. Your hyperbole not withstanding of course.
@Baltar: What? Er no. OC and Sairs can ALREADY do this, so there's not actually a need to let them do it.

Fred Hamilton here, Captain within the LPI. We've got an answer for you.

Deveron Kerry opened up his lap-pad at his workbench in the Human Resources department, which as of now was his primary residence. He fired up his custom-skinned Sunbucks SiriusNet browser and suddenly experienced a lurch in the entire structure for a peculiarly brief moment. Next thing he knew, he was starring at some odd forum with a curious number of statements that seemed to vaguely somehow affect Liberty Police, Inc. in their smuggler policies.
"They says we can use the 'Donut to obliterate cardi haulers now, eh? This is interesting...really interesting. Now we have a forty percent greater chance of successfully stopping some of those gasbags...or would if the Dread could. Still...ah don't see how a Dreadnaught could even compare to a well-oiled Roc or a considerably dense Libby swarm. They's got speed and the ability to cut a transport off before it jumps the lane. I don't see a capital doin' that too swiftly."
He briefly pondered the repercussions of having such an option suddenly available to him. For a brief moment, he felt like it truly meant something...
...then it passed and he decided it actually didn't and closed the browser.
"More pointless policies...what we really need is some homemade donuts around this place...maybe a Janitor or three."
Kerry grinned at the thought briefly, then closed his Lap-pad as it shut down and repositioned it in its place on the shelf behind him.
"Eh, Harvie, we'll get out of here soon...just have to work a bit longer at the Great-Justice-one. I want to make them Lane Hackers green with envy."
The machine beeped briefly in half-"hearted" approval as Kerry sat down at his other workbench and resumed his work.
//EDIT: Pardon me, seems a dozen posts were made as I was posting mine...seems the question has been answered already.
