The only viable alternative for BMM is the Stokes niobium field. There are no Kusari NPC patrols within so unless Kus PC's catch on, they'd be fairly safe there. Sell at New Berlin, via the Omegas. Mining speed and profit should be similar to that of gold.
Ever heard of Bowex, Gateway?
Edit: You could even get Liberty or Rheinland company to ship your ore to Kusari

Yes, that. Sorry for not being a powerminer that knows every single bit of information regarding mining.
Point of your post is? A miner is a miner, he's not a hauler. Let them mine, and sell the ore to transports. Done.

If you comply, there is no engagement, so logging to a combat character and shooting the crap out of them is not against the rules either. And if after you comply they still engage, they violate PvP rules. It's not against the rules, but it's very impolite, unless you are mining somewhere you should not be in the first place (Tau 37 is asking for it, using the Molly gold field is asking for it)
Be careful with that, it won't be the first time someone got sanctioned for switching to a gunboat to avenge his trader/miner. You are looking too deep into the rules, if the pirate took half of your shield, that's it, you can't switch... As primitive said, if you were pirated in a mining spot... call the authorities, hire escorts, hire scouts, do something to prevent being pirated again.
' Wrote:Oh, I saw pirates asking for money and then threatening to blow up / blowing up the miner for the ore.
And this is what this thread is/(was) about.
I won't get angry when caught by a pirate - only when he starts some s... like "30 MIO OR DAI!" (and yes, I had that happen to me more than once). Maybe saying it a bit different, but still demanding more than 75% of what the freight is worth. Calling for backup when the pirate has left ...well, as an IMG miner there are often [D] ships or CR around, but as other miners, faction indies, you got noone to call.
If a trader runs into you twice in a short time that's his fault. If a pirate runs into a miner twice in a short time (while he's still loading the same cargohold), that's not the miners fault...
I will pay every reasonable demand, but everything insane, I will rather drop my freight and shoot it and wait until I get blown up. All I'm talking about is that some people just demand you to give them everything and your mom (and your girlfriend and her mom ... and probably the mom's moms, too). It takes the fun out of the game, since you got absolutly no chance to defend yourself in most cases. There's no RP involved.
If there was - well, maybe that could be interesting. Most times you are just trying not to get shot at while typing, cause they always give you almost no time to respond.
So, let's put a limit, let's say pirates can only demand 5 million as top... oh yes... that will add a lot of fun to the game, knowing that if a pirate comes by, you just can save your day with 5 million... it's been said so many times that it lost its meaning... DON'T MINE ALONE, it's not meant to be a solo task, you need protection, scouts, escorts... the most interesting mining group I've seen was composed by 4 ships, 2 maffics (with snacs, and mining turrets) 1 transport with mining turrets, and 1 VHF with TCD and mining turrets, I came by to them with my pirate gunboat, do you think that they were scared at all?
I've mined alone against all my advices, but soon as ANY ship appeared on my scanners, I started cruise engines and ran away, and I didn't have the protection of any lawful, because I did it on my Samura Hegemon mining gold ore in Dublin where EVERYONE would shot me.
You can get pirated twice by the same pirate on your mining spot once... but if you didn't learn the lesson for the next time, there's no one to blame but yourself.
Well I see only 2 options here
1:
Stop whining and organise yourselves, get proper defence from pirates
but you always choose:
2:
I will Q-Q in the forum, I will waste forum space for the same topic over and over again and I will rule-lawyer?
Better try this:

Stop looking so deep into it and just give ma an honest opinion.
Yes.
Or no.
and yes 0.0 is a rule.

With an image that big, you can't fit any text below it. Please fix this.

As previously pointed out, this is wrong. Sickeningly so. It's pretty much a textbook definition of a revenge kill, which is against the rules.
' Wrote:There's a difference between miners and traders you all seem to forget...
The miner HAS TO STAY where he is mining, to get profit.
(Don't tell me "he can move to another system bla bla", a BMM miner has no other choice than mining gold in Dublin.)
Imo there should be a rule against stuff like that...
But hey, seeing how pirates may demand horrendous sums from anyone, even if those almost exceed the profit the trader/miner would make, without any rules against that...I think I can clearly say - no one cares about traders and miners. All about blue messages, you know...
Looks like the pirates may do, what ever they want and get away with it. (Except maybe shooting without telling you anything.)
And before anyone starts flaming. I'm out. Just had to comment this, it's our daily "miners and traders need some rule protection against piracy-abuse"-thread.

Wrong and wrong. But you know that. I'll refer you to This Thread for my comments on both of your points, specifically pages 9, 11, and 15. I suggest you read them carefully, and think before you type.

Why not? It's the trader's fault that he's so stupid to be pirated again, in the same system, by the same pirate.

TL;DR? The STHU. You're just throwing out an invalid opinion at that point and add nothing substantial to the conversation. Trader =\= Miner...get that straight. See above.
Edit: reading even further...good god man, you're a fountain of bad information. It's very disheartening to see that you're just here for the +1s. Nice to know your true motivation though.
You don't have to be a powerminer to know what the heck you're talking about. The Wiki is a good source of information, as is the mining guide in the help section of these very forums. A miner is a hauler if they want to be, there's a reason the Heg has a decent cargo hold (on par with the mid-level transports in the game). It's a choice. It's also a choice the miner has to make whether to risk the haul as well.
Problem with that is it's a double risk. The mining portion of the endeavor is risky because your sitting in one spot the whole time. This is even true if you're a "mining miner" *gasp!*. I know right? Blew your mind. The thing about being a miner/hauler is that you have to double your chances of seeing your profits go poof when you decide to haul your goods to the sell point of choice...all of which are metagamingly known by most pirates, both decent and less-than-stellar.

To the original poster: No, it's not illegal persay, but it's pretty low-down in terms of ruining someone's day. Kind of a jerk move really, and it REALLY borders on a violation of rule 1.2. If you don't know what it is, look it up, but it pretty much covers actions detrimental to server gameplay. Again, I'll refer you to the thread linked above, specifically post #142, on a low-down of what "rule" 0.0 really is.
