I'd asked for one of his books for Christmas, The Man in the High Castle, and as soon as I have the opportunity I'll start reading it. Looks like a great book.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

Hamilton : Pandora's Star series (don't know the full english name)
Pandora's star, Judas Unchained. There is also Mispent Youth which happens before Pandora but it is a different story. There are no links with the Commonwealth Saga except the setting. The Void trylogy however contains some characters from the Commonwealth Saga.
Anything by Larry Niven if you want hard-science sci-fi
(Best: The Mote in God's Eye and it's sequel, The Gripping Hand)
Anything by Philip Jose Farmer if you want philosophical sci-fi.
(Best: The Unreasoning Mask)
But everyone should read Hubbard'sBattlefield Earth, all 1200 pages of it.
So good.
Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise by Charles Stross

Yeah Finn, Ive read The Mote in God's Eye and it WAS good. Never read the sequel though. Battlefield Earth IS epic, but LONG; makes Stephen King feel like short stories. Although its well worth the read. HOWEVER, its pulpy, in a good way. If the idea of a couple hundred Scots conquering the universe is your idea of fun, give it a shot.
Also Ben Bova is good. Oh and if youre going to read Dick, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is the book that inspired the movie Blade Runner.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and 1984 by Orwell are necessary reads, but grim.
Oh, and Orson Scott Card's Treason is real good too.
