Na. It only took a few minutes to kreig Dusty. He's soft as hell. This is a hobby, not a 24/7 job. Gheis has been busy in the real world doing my laundry, cooking for me, and generally being my domestic slave. I'm sorry if my needs come before that of an internet hobby. Wait. No I am not.
I'm thinking a pinned thread containing links to all of the most recent admin updates would be peachy. You know, those announcements and threads that contain updates to specific things that eventually fall past page 2 and are forgotten? Thus, people create multiple threads inquiring about them. I think a pinned thread would be dandy.
We've created a subforum of the Rules board for Administrator announcements. I'm in the process of skimming the forums for stray rules-related admin announcements, but if you see something I've missed, either PM it to me or post it here.

If a forum moderator could replace every reference to "www.discoveryfl.com" in the last post to "www.discoverygc.com" (notepad could help - Ctrl + H), that'd be much appreciated.
Edit: Link unborked.
Didn't think about posting it in here first, my apologies. Though having it in two places can't hurt anyhow.
Again, same applies here. "www.discoveryfl.com/wiki" -> "www.discoverygc.com/wiki".
Actually, coming to think of it, those two threads could be merged and probably should be to minimize
confusion, as they are essentially identical in function. Alternatively, the second thread posted (01.07.2008) could
be unpinned - from what I know, we no longer use the shortcut but a separate config file that's used at launch
(dsupdate.cfg) that from what I see allows us to use URLs to connect - so the bit of information that's in the second
thread and not in the first is redundant/outdated today.

On Discovery Wiki, we have a special page dedicated to all 3rd party servers running Discovery mod:
To edit this page, you'll need to register at the wiki and confirm your e-mail address. After that, open the page and simply press "Edit". Copy your server info to the page following the same pattern as other servers (about 10-12 are already there). Do not disrupt the page layout - if you do, we'll remove your edit and restore an older backup.
On the website page, we'll update the server list from time to time using the info you provided on wiki. Please don't e-mail the information to me. Wiki is faster and more convenient.

[quote= Wrote:I'm trying to index all Discovery servers into 2 shortcuts that will allow to connect directly to any of them. While testing the shortcuts, however, I discovered that most servers are offline. Or provide incorrect information about IPs and/or ports.
So, a request for all server owners: check this Wiki page http://discoveryfl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Server_List
and find your server. If the information is incorrect, fix the errors. If there's no port specified, fix it.
In the end we'll probably have only one shortcut (up to 10 servers can be included) that contains all active servers for Discovery mod, different versions. The shortcut will be available for download both along with the mod and in a separate .zip package.
And if your server isn't there at all, add it asap! This page is the primary source for everyone who's looking for various Discovery servers. And shortcuts will make connecting to any server (not just Discovery RP) an easy and straightforward process.
Also, specially for Lancer Discovery server admin(s): lancersrp.no-ip.org:2302 is NOT an IP and I can't use it for shortcut. Can you provide an IP address instead?
EDIT: 12/Feb/10 - removed old posts to clean up thread - cannon.
EDIT: This thread regarding the screenshot contest from '09/early '10 could also be unpinned.
EDIT2: And this locked thread from '09 with some ship submissions for 4.85. This looks more or less like the 4.86 edition of this thread.
EDIT3: Not sure if this thread still needs to be pinned either - a rename to "Cruise drain feedback" or similar might be enough to bring it up to date, if a separate thread for cruise drain feedback is deemed to be required today. Cruise drain has changed a lot since version #3 in late '09, and feedback for this topic has in later times largely been handled by the threads for the new .dll updates.
EDIT4: This thread could also be unpinned. It only applied around the transition from 4.84 -> 4.85. We'll probably see a new thread like this come 4.86, so there's no need to bring it up to date.
EDIT5: This thread could also be unpinned, and/or replaced with a similar contest if anyone is willing to set one up.
EDIT6: www.discoveryfl.com/wiki needs to be changed to discoverygc.com/wiki in this thread. Be careful to only change the wiki link in the first post.
EDIT7: This thread has probably had it's run as a pinned thread too. I'd presume that any changes to this issue before 4.86 has been done and the matter closed, as the thread hasn't been posted in since September last year.
EDIT8: This thread needs an update. The Skype link to the help channel has been broken for quite some time, <strike>I'll copy a new link here as soon as I can acquire one.</strike> See below.
EDIT10: Igiss' sig doesn't look like it has been updated in a good while - the wiki link is broken. I doubt he'd mind having the link to the wiki in his sig working again, and it'd make it easier for me to sort out the rest of the
broken links as his sig appears in quite a lot of threads. Again, same here: "www.discoveryfl.com/wiki" -> "discoverygc.com/wiki"
EDIT11: My apologies for the wall of text. You wouldn't happen to have a position open for a (temporary?) forum janitor?
By the way, that is essentially all the pinned threads that I can see might need a look, or as you said - "tidying up" after a trawl through most of the subforums. Just a few recommendations. The list will, of course, grow as/if I find more.
EDIT12: The faction creation request subforum could desperately use a bit of tidying up - Most of the pinned threads could with significant readability and ease-of-use advantages be combined into a single guide in one thread. There's a lot of overlap in the threads, and there's not really a need nor use for there to be six seperate pinned threads on the same matter: Setting up a official faction.
It could perhaps be done a bit like this - guide(lines) + the other administrator announcements and advice accumulated over the years as separate posts in one pinned thread instead of six.
This iteration of the GRP is no longer official. They/(you) will probably want a new feedback thread when the time comes anyhow, I guess. Feedback for the current iteration is handled by their officiality request thread.
The Aoi Iseijin faction is no longer official. Move thread to "Other factions and groups" subforum, or as advised below?
If they are deemed to be worth keeping for historical purposes, I'd suggest creating a "Archived Threads" subforum (or something like that), lock them, and move them there.
Quote:•Feedback Threads - There is a specific section in the rules area for feedback threads. Old, no longer used, feedback threads may be put into your section (they will be locked) for archiving. Please request this from a moderator/administrator.
This guideline applies to the old Ageira and DSE faction feedback threads, provided they'd want to keep them.
EDIT3: Official faction feedback subforum
NLH is no longer official. Replaced by this thread.
All right, took a look through the pinned threads. Most I agreed with, save Mjolnir's "changes" thread, which I feel still holds some relevancy, or at least will again upon the release of .86
Also, I'm not really quite sure what to do with that Skype link.
I'll take a look a the faction stuff when I get a bit later. Thanks for trawling through the mess.
Edit: It appears the skype link only works from within skype, and you still have to be added to the conversation to be able to access it, as it isn't actually giving me access to the chat through it. Basically, I think it'd be used only, really, if you go to a different PC and need to bring the channel back up due to Skype not actually transferring chats between computers.
tl;dr - even if you have the skype link, you still have to be added to the channel first for it to work properly.
Edit 2: Or maybe the creator of the channel just has to be online. I dunno yet. Either way, the link isn't foolproof.
