The Master of all things cyborg
The one problem with this is that it might leave traders too vulnerable to interception. What I mean is if one leg of a trade route takes 15 minutes, and (due to the lower number of buying/selling points per commodity) must invariably involve a certain route, then it would be fairly easy for pirates to watch the player list for people beginning that route and then intercept them. Whereas at the moment (for example) diamond runners might be heading through either Honshu or Chugoku, and from either New Berlin JH or Frankfurt, so the trader has at least a 50/50 chance of picking the place where the pirate isn't.
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

i have a feeling that trader interception won't change much. currently there is one main money making route. pirates can sit in one general area and catch their prey. however, this limits what pirates are able to catch them seeing as the route is far outside the majority of pirates ZOI.
with the new system as i see it, there are going to be a plethora of trade routes all over Sirius now with the proffits of said routes being equalled out. that alone would make tracking them harder i would think seeing as you never know what route they are taking in most case. but on the other hand they'll be more opportunities for new pirate factions to run into them.
so i think it'll probably equal out or at the most there won't be any significant change.
just my opinion and as always it's very possible that i'm wrong.
It will make pirating harder, because now you see all the traders jump into the D/N run when no pirates are on the chat screen, and the traders leave when the pirates show up en mass.
What you will have in the new mod is traders who do the same thing with more choices to jump into to avoid wherever the pirate happens to be at the moment.
Also there will be equally profitable runs that are all through lawful space, making it even harder.
While right now there is "one trade route" (biggest bunch of BS i've ever heard) and it is pretty well camped by pirates now, traders have the option of hiring escorts and mercs.
In the new system, while it may be that there is one set route for a certain commodity set, there will (i'm told) be many routes, throughout sirius. Take a left turn at New Berlin instead of that right.
Also, since RP traders will actually have RP routes, this flings open the door for CONVOYS! *grabs trucker hat* Oh yeah. Imagine an OSC Liner, two Armored Transports, and a couple of fighters...or in my case, Two liners and a train...blowing the tar outta pirates that try to catch them unawares.
This system will make trading much more fun, and that's the hope of it. I'm getting my new trader set up discovering all the normal bases now so he'll be ready to go when 4.85 comes out.
At least you won't have 30 traders and 40 pirates in one single system like now.
So, yeah, Gaians will have something to do, Farmers will have something to do, Hackers will have something to do... Etc etc.
Not just GC and Dragons.

It is every Corsair's responsibility to die a beautiful death in defense of Crete, regardless of how OORP or how capwhoring the opposition is. Launch your fighter, joust the battlecruisers and die a beautiful death. Then, drink it down in the bar.
Only from the noobs, because once a trader figures things out he just logs on and looks. Gaians on but no Hackers on, take that trade route. Hacker shows up on the chat screen, dock (and there will a lot more valid docking locations on these routes) and go to the RH trade route with your other whale or train.
sure they'll be some unforseen downsides i'm sure, but i agree it'll be much more interesting for certain as the population of the community is spread out rather than being centered around NY and one trade route.
