If you move that opening cargo bay to the back you can make something cool like the Halo's Pelican, it can even have the cockpit look like the one on the snubs order line and keep the wing engines
Ofc i am not saying to port the pelican into Discovery, but it can be used as a base idea like the cool firefly/serenity we have
something like this, just make it more Freelancish
maybe thinner and radio antennas instead of fins
it can have 1 engine in each wing and only one at the tail, instead of 4
and maybe two cockpits like the russian helicopter Mil Mi-24
loool ps skills, also door (dor)
Again this is a base idea, not asking for a port
Omicron saw this and thought it looked like an Order Freighter, and I agree... it would be awesome to include in an SHF/Freighter role, similar to the spatial - though instead of double mines I'd probably give it double countermeasure slots.
The problem with current Hathor is the texture and overall superstructure which appears to have plenty of nonsensical weakpoints that neither fit Freelancer style dieselpunk aestethic or Order/Liberty highlights. Idea for the cargohold would be to fill out current Hathor's belly, removing quite nonsensically placed engine intake while also making sure the wings would connect. The odd exposed Rheinland-style reactors may be a better fit for a non-combatant Zoner gunboat design. Personally I have nothing against the current gigantic flying wing shape but I will allow myself to be surprised under condition that it remains a competitive heavy gunboat statistic-wise.
Jinx proposed version which is NOT old Hathor but a shortly lived 4.86 replacement that strayed further from god moved even further away from fitting in-line with rest of The Order ships. The amazing black Hathor at least has a dark texture and bricks fit Order slightly better than metal tentacles - I think we can all agree as to why.
EDIT: I should add, the role of Hathor in Order shipline. From INRP standpoint, our reconaissance order cruisers (ORC) are valuable and considered fully fledged capital ships in their own right and therefore they are to be escorted as opposed to being an escort. Order lacks any kind of destroyer type ship (unless you would rather stretch already thin line with Zoners by spamming their Q-ship), compensating with a heavy Hathor for the role. Think of it INRP-wise as versatile VERY LIGHT DESTROYER (still within gunboat classification by size and guns, do not mistake with Orca) that is both a heavy assault ship as a natural step up from fighter ships and simmultaneously an escort destroyer for ships larger than itself.
The pelican would certainly fit a freighter role better than a GB, imo. Or perhaps even an armored transport like FL pelican. That draft design looks good
side view of that rough image, I tried to blend the bridge backwards into the hull bridge and just half-circle
I also found out this even fatter pelican, it looks like this extra cargo bay can be mounted if it needs more space and removed if not, this makes it an even more versitle ship. I like the first one more, but I think its a good idea to share it here anyway... maybe an armored transport?
but yes let's wait for Iris's concpets, pretty sure she will bring us way cooler ships than my "collages" ahah
PS: wow so many replies when i was writing this one, maybe that brown one for civilian freithger pelican or order spatial/freithger like you guys said(?)

I'm fully on board with this. The Hathor makes a lot of sense, both RP-wise and in an ingame capacity as a heavy escort ship for the order's other caps - the resheph, geb, and osiris. Gameplay-wise, it should remain a gunboat, but I think that classification-wise / RP-wise, it should be seen as either a Super-heavy gunboat or as a very light destroyer. I dont expect stats to change from what they are now, but I certainly would not be opposed to seeing the Hathor get a unique powercore and equipment slot changes to fit that role a little better. If I had to suggest changes to that effect, I would probably make the Hathor have a 700-800k power core (not quite cruiser level, but bigger than the current 600k gunboat core), Increase it to 10 turrets (up from 8) with 6 turrets being gunboat primaries (prims/cerbs/solaris/etc), 2 being gunboat heavies (razors/missiles/etc.) and 2 being cruiser primaries (allowing for cruiser primaries, solaris, pulses, etc.).
If we go the route of adding a freighter based on the concept above, making it a freighter/combat freighter/SHF style ship designed to meet the order's supply needs, then we can forget about having an assault cargo bay on the Hathor and instead make it a true escort destroyer.
I do not believe current devs have in their MO to consider "hybrid ship classes" given they significantly overhauled battlecruiser class to prevent it from using both cruiser and battleship weapons. Neither anyone wants a repeat from a fiasco that's an Orca (that has not been fixed to this day. SNAC magnet and subpar defensive capabilities for its size)

True enough, probably best if we keep the stats as they are and just leave it as a heavy gunboat.
That doesnt mean that it cant -look- more like a super-light destroyer though =P
