yes, we did. but at the same time we barely could dent the sheilds with ALL of us hammering away, the gb pulse suck pretty bad, since his missle goes 5.5k range, and we were SHOOTING the missles and they were still hitting us
atm i can see usage of Gbs primary for pirating and stopping smugglers. Most of Gbs with decent pilot can handle 3 or maybe even 4 VHFs if its carries right weaponry. In mass fights GBs are almost useless and usually they die first (or second depending if there is cruisers in the fight).
One bomber against Gb stands little chance. Two have moderate chance.
But, again, now GBs are definitely not for mass fights.

Not really, I engaged two OC GBs in my cruiser the other day and barley used any bots. I had the 1st one killed just as GMG bombers showed up (it was in the sigmas) and would have finished off both of them earlier execpt all the NPCs in the area were attacking the GBs, and kept raming me as I was about to get a mortar to hull shot.
It comes down not just to numbers and skill. but loadout. In my case, I know my weak and strong points, and pick a loadout that compensates.
I've thought about this a lot, and have come up with the following:
VHF's are supposed to be good against Bombers, and yet Bombers can mount 4 codes and fire them continuosly without energy issues, and have mines to shake off pursuers.
Solution? Change Bomber's to have one CD and one Class 6 Turret slot. MAke the Turret slot to only be able to fire forwards, and change SNAC's, MR's and Inferno's to Class 6 turrets. Now, make SNAC's, MR's and Inferno's take up about the same % of energy as now, but from a VHF powercore. Change the bombers to have VHF powercores, and now Bomber's have their Anti-Cap weapons only they can use, and yet arn't so good against fighters. Possibly also remove Mine slot.
Gunboats good against VHF's.
Possibly slow down Gunboat weaponry, making it easier for VHF's to dodge. Have gunboat's specialise against Bombers by having their slow weapons better against the slower bombers than against the faster VHF's.
HF's weak against VHF's: Give HF's twin mines, and perhaps faster impulse speed, allowing them to really give VHF's a run for their money.
LF's weak against all: Give LF's twin thrusters, giving them speed that just can't be rivalled. Should make them more powerful.
Cruiser's and Battleships are pretty equally balanced, except against each other imo, I dislike the fact you have to have a HM to win a battle now, and light Bs's are useless against Heavy ones in 4.85, whereas in 4.84 I could solo an Outcast Dread in the San Fran D:

This thread has turned into a 'what i think is messed up' thread, but there is a lot of that going around I guess. I expect Mjolnir to come in and tell everyone to 'learn to fly' and leave, sooner or later.
But my view; Bombers really just arent different from fighters much, 58k bombers are close, because they're laughable vs VHF (so-so against small caps, good against BS), whereas the age old 48k bomber 'lul im a VHF with SN' remains, and hasnt been addressed at all, actually its been made worse, by adding more 48k bombers. lower their impulse speed, remove mines, do something about their weapon slots, replace torp/cd with just cd (better anyway, for anti cap), are among various options.
Caps, Gunboats arent underpowered much, ask around, put 3 BR and 2 pulse on a gunboat and insta gib fighter/bomber, and remain a match 2 vs 1 for a cruiser, even a battleship.
Light bs vs heavy bs, requires a lot more skill for the light BS, too much probably, and luck. The RM BS got its impulse lowered to 80m/s (from the normal 90), yet other heavy BS still have 90, I'm not sure why, should really get all heavy BS down to 80, to give the light BS a chance, if just to run away, getting distance makes the fight last longer, which I think is a good thing.
Heavy Mortar, its stupidly powerful, makes fights quite short (highlighted by the above problem), a single HM will just about wipe a BS shield (making the shield moot, and pulse cannons in general).
I think the Mortar alone is sufficient, gives more room for error, makes other moderate energy use weapons more viable (missiles, BR), which I think is important, especially the room for error. Standard loadout for BS seems to have become HM + primes, maybe a missile or flak/solaris, for giggles and more 'I dont have escorts' type BS.

Some of this stuff is okay, although it would need a whole lot of balancing.
Stuff I don't like:
Turning minirazors into class 6 turrets. Why? These are for fighters first and foremost. They're only used by bombers who want to do weird stuff, like shoot fighters, or barghests.
Nerf gunboats vs fighters: Why would you do this? This is what they are for.
