Jump Gates are safer. They do not collapse and always take you to the correct destination.
You'd likely be permanently trapped within the jump vortex, and if your ship is not destroyed, you would die from lack of supplies.

In reality, they are MUCH better than gates. Gate queues even with only a few ships WILL take forever, holes can move entire battleship fleets almost instantly.
I'm quite sure you need to queue for a Jump Hole as well. Don't confuse the quickdock game mechanic with lore.
I don't believe we have solid vanilla evidence demonstrating that Capital Ships utilise Jump Holes.
