yep that's what I use, and with six solaris it can fend off two VHFs alright or a single bomber, other than that you're screwed
Well, what do you expect? To fend off two bombers, all by yourself? All while having 5k cargo? Right...
That aside, I am also one for piracy rudeness. I don't usually pirate , but if I did, all I would have to say is: "Space is dangerous" or "Swim or die" :3

Hey, no pirates!
Yeah take some deep breaths son... I said I enjoyed hunting them (the red vs green part of it) but otherwise they serve no purpose. Your response is ... gtfo? You are certainly proving some kind of point here, probably not what you wanted though.
I think you are really really off in your argument. You say you never pay, but realisticly speaking what UPS-delivery guy would ever die for his cargo, even if it meant giving Al-Qaeda or whoever a minimal profit?
Also this game relies heavily on confrontation, like any other game. If nothing is at stake, we would (game-wise) all be nothing but glorified travellers enjoying the beautiful vista essentially. And I disagree, piracy DOES add to the enjoyent: Knowing you might lose your cargo or credits makes it all the more enjoyable when you reach your destination - otherwise you might as well just give any starting player 1 billion credits and be done with it.
And saying that pirates don't risk anything is just flat out wrong. If you are on your own, quite often you end up at the short end of the stick, dying and having to spend lotsa credits rebuying mines, cd's, bats and bots. Considered the low credit yield from pirating, this is quite costly. I mostly solo pirate, but whenever I find myself in gank-squads it's only a matter of minutes before getting over-ganked by lawfuls & friends.
You are basicly proposing a non-confrontational game at all levels by saying: "What is the purpose exactly? Why do you think you have a right to my play time and the credits I am collecting?"
That form of reasoning could also be used when you are sitting around in New Berlin in your Liberty Dread killing NPC's and RM shows up: "What is the purpose exactly? Why do you think you have a right to my play time and to destroy the ship I worked hard for?"
What defines Disco is its RP core. RP requires more than one individual by default, thus it is a (at least) two-way process, which in turn means you cannot control other's actions, you just have to react to them. As this is the premise of the entire game, you signed off your "right to your own play time" the moment you logged on the server, bluntly put.
I find piracy fun, both when trading and when pirating. The fact of the matter is that the pricing level of all the top-tier stuff in Disco is ridiculously low anyways. It doesn't take long to get a CAU VIII'd BS and from then you are good to go, you can just use the used ship market if you tire of your ship and character and want something new. Why do people need all those credits? What is up with the greed?
' Wrote:[...] pirates would have freighters and would perform RP for their dinner money against miners and merchants who would not avoid the encounters [...]
First point - enough people already use freighters. Expecially after the update they got a very useful asset for a pirate.
Second point - why only that ? Go read some RP and find out why there are actually groups of pirates or groups of unlawful people. You know how that is called ? Organized crime, it exists in th real world, too, if taht was your aim.
Also, I think I have encountered more then just two or three pirates in Liberty acting like you described [I did that once, too].
Quote:solaris
Use Type 3's instead and chainfire people to death with them. At least it works on the average-joe-pirates.
Quote:Oh I never pay. I refuse to subsidize piracy. I'll fight and destroy the cargo myself rather than give away any of it.
Besides never paying in order to keep your whatever you got in the situation + life is considered ooRP by a good amount of poeple. Also, if you want to trade only - play SP and be happy/forever alone. If you don't like pirate encounters and don't think they are justified you might think it all over. They are, you even gave a reason for it yourself.
Quote:oh I don't know CAP8 gunboat maybe? is that military grade enough? or a pair of bombers, one to deshield the other to dehull? they didn't buy this gear to RP they bought it to destroy non-paying ships
They infact bought the gear to RP - they RP pirates with some good gear [duh]. It is quite inRP, that pirates want to have ships with the ability to destroy most transports.
Quote:There's hardly any risk-v-reward for unlawfuls, since the pirates can use military grade equipment vs transport grade equipment, and typically work in squads for when the lawfuls show up
Alright. Go make a CAU7 Gunship, a Barghest Bomber or a Kraken Sabre and try yourself at piracy. You will see, that there is a good amount of risk involved for the pirate, since even if you would work with some friends and fly in squads - they lawfuls do, too [I've seen 4 or 5 [LN] ships as patrol against regular pirates already].
Quote:Why do you think you have a right to my play time and the credits I am collecting ?
Because it's RP and we can. You will loose just a very little tiny amount of money in a piracy situation. It's not really a serious grief to your gameplay.
' Wrote:I think you are really really off in your argument. You say you never pay, but realisticly speaking what UPS-delivery guy would ever die for his cargo
Found your problem: there is no character death, characters are immortal, lrn2rp
It's multiplayer, other people use their own RP scenario. Some will fight, some will destroy goods to keep them from the enemy, we're not UPS drivers trying to get home to wife and kids, okay. Seriously the whole premise of this argument is that pirate gets to dictate the terms of engagement AND THE RP behind the engagement. It's ridiculous, and yet every pirate pulls it out like its going to close the debate. Its enough you are imposing on people's gametime you don't get to write their script too
You are focusing on the least important part of what I said, and I am not going to waste time explaining it to you. I think what needs saying has already been said.

If you want to play a freefor all space shooter, there are dozens and dozens of other servers out there.
This here is a roleplay server.
You act like your character, no metagaming, no taking into account game mechanics.
If when you are accosted by a pirate, you are not taking into account the possibility of your character dying, are not playing the role you yourself have defined, you sir.
Are a noob, and the highest form of lolwut.
