You people really need to have your cake and eat it too sometimes. I'll post here instead of the sanction, but the bottom line is that those sort of arguments 'damage but not death' probably shouldn't hold up anymore and we're lucky to have been allowed in the first place. I've been an active pirate for years now and I've always been happy with cargo or credits. It's about the check mate, having you opponent by the you know what's. You had it, you weren't happy with it. I had like 50 GRN pilots, 50 xenos, 50 video games, a few other things....you could have cleaned me out fair and square...so who's not rp'ing along here? It all went to waste... If you had I may have been sour, but replied with a bounty instead...
Now as example even I a few months ago was stopped by some corsairs in my indie BWT, and they demanded I go.get them some food and water from a nearby base. They let me go, and I had the choice to go back or not. I did and they never had any reason to remember my name for not playin along. Again, if you have to expose yourself to damage INRP it's not just a role play demand and starts to exceed the ID. So in the case that someone doesn't want to play along, you can just fall back on cargo or credits. It's way too much to let anyone have such power ( shooting off turrets) just because they're in their zoi.
No one should be getting busted up when they were perfectly willing to drop cargo and or credits...that's what IDs say, it's what people know is coming. RP demands are not dead, relax. " RP" demands involving shooting your ship are dead and I totally agree with the reasons why. This is why I filed, not cuz we got pirated on our unlawfuls, but because aside from a demand to stop there was no demand for anything. And TBH, due to your haste and poor use of terminology, I didn't get what you were demanding until it was too late. ' drop you shield' can mean a lot when people are demanding turrets in space as well. When I tried this, I asked if the guy knew how to lower his shield, and fully described what my intentions were with none of the aggression you guys gave, and I still got a no. Settle for cargo and credits as the absolute bottom line, it's not so bad.
We have (and had in past) enough dumb rules. One more, one less, doesn't really matter.
But there're things worse than dumb rules - rules that can be interpreted in multiple ways.
IMHO demanding mounted guns on the ship is unreasonable demand (a specially due game mechanic)
even if You can easily destroy them without hurting the hull.
I do not have any problem with pirates who ask for nanobots, clock-batteries, cargo,
un-mounted guns, credits or even if they force me drop all cargo...

Also every first and last ring of a tradelane should be outfitted with a free candy dispenser and a little booth with a counselor in it who traders can talk to about how tough their life is.
@Unforgiven
"Just ask for credits or cargo." Boooooooring. That's not roleplay, that's gameplay, that's the most basic interaction between pirate and victim. Or combat. What about those who want a bit more excitement, creativity, story, and I don't mean your random "got a family of seven to feed" stories those who bother enough to spice their "2milordie" with? Yes, here you can read a trader not minding if he gets shot at as part of the process of compliance without dying in a piracy encounter where he complied (especially if no hull damage done at all). Someone who values unique ideas more than generic ones. Basically the only similar experience I've had that I can remember is the one I described on the first page, these unique ideas are less frequent than they should be, yet they had to go...
@Zayne
Well it matters to people who actually play I guess.
Once a player pirated me in Elite: Dangerous and took all my cargo, plus he destroyed my engine. His words"Let him suffer". In this case self-destruct or suicide, done. No harm.
In the past, we did a lot of "shoot the equipment off"- stuff. Pods, Transport Turrets. Dunno, what is wrong now about this...
That is like, to torture someone with a knife and cut his fingers off, until he will tell what you want to hear or cause/spread some fear.... in my opinion normal RP.
