from the comparsion of Gaian guns above you get that one big difference between them:

Efficiency

lvl 8: 4.69
lvl 9: 3.55

So 2 issues:

1. The lvl 8 efficiency can't really get to insane numbers (>>5.5 ), so if the damage is upped more than just a bit, then the energy use will have to go up some, and LFs don't really have a lot of energy

most importantly:
2. All other fighters can use lvl 8s as well
So if you buff them, those fighters also get better (most notably HFs) => even less reason to use LFs.
If the efficiency gets really good then it migh actually be worth to mount lvl 8s instead of lvl9 on VHFs on regular basis as well.

Being forced to use mines is a luck based proposition, and having ammo based damage isnt a good thing for when you run out.

Some would call it luck.. some skill. LFs have always been extremely skill based, don't see any need to change that. Though, "skill based" here means is not entirely correct, surving in LFs is rather easy, killing things in it is rather difficult.

Plus all LF's with 2 8's and 2 nines are faction/restricted in some way.

Griffin, Tigershark, Scimitar and Moonbeam are rather widely available. Not much different number from the amount of VHFs that are not restricted.
Other than that it's up to the modelers to come with new LF models.

I find the LF powerplant to be more than adequate. The LF powerplant is 8000u:800u/s, compared to the HF powerplant with 9000u:900u/s. I can sustain fire a lot longer in a LF than in my HF, very useful for a support ship.

I'd be very happy with a small increase in damage and energy use, whilst keeping the efficiency similar. Nothing big, just a small increase.

Hey, Mjolnir, what if you allow LF's to mount a mini version of the minirazor, same refire but a lower energy cost (same proportion as a VHF's) and maybe 2\3's of the original's?

Well, why so, because fighters wealding those weapons would be unefficient.
I do not see how would mounting a micro razor on a VHF be better than a MR if balanced right.

The refire is the same, the damage is less and unproportioned to the powerplant. Aka a VHF mounting a micro razor would be....*shrug*

Ofcourse, making the micro razor a diruptor slot weapon, it MIGHT allow bombers to mount them, but I have no idea about the current bomber slot coding.

Or the "mini-mini" is mountable on cd slot and then bombers/freighters/some transports/gbs AND cruisers can use it as well.

Offering one class just for LF torp slot stuff seems a bit much for me. There are few LFs that could use normal torp slot as they are now (Hyena, Partisan and Phantom as i wrote before).

Playing with mine slots/powercore/lvl 8 guns, seems more appropriate to me.

Then why can't normal ships mount class 6 bomber weapons or novas?

Can't the same idea be implemented on a LF?

Yes, but then we use 1 or 2 classes just on that, a ship which is largely similar to other fighters. Bomber guns and slots were added after various other changes to bombers were tried, not as a first choice.

LFs were fine or even too good (some) in 4.84 (*remembers accusations of "LF whoring"*). Now some are slightly weak, so perhaps first try simple measures?
