' Wrote:So, finally bein able to try out a few capital ships online and not being really impressed by them, i wanted to ask what you use them for? I mean, yes, they pack a lot of firepower and staying power, but for RP they are a bit uninteresting. I havent bought a carrier yet, maybe I will try one tomorrow, but can they actually "carry" other ships? Can they act as mobile bases for fighters or is the "carrier" class simply " heavy battleship" class?
Also, a few capitals are exceptionally poorly designed, at least from my fiew.... especially the gunplacement in a few cases looks like a 5 year old got drunk (bounty hunter capitals anyone?).... or do they have any special abilities i dont know about?
And: where are the other cap players?
Did you make biographies for all those cap ships you tried out? Did you get permission from the faction leadership to fly them?
EDIT: Interesting ... you've been here about 1 month and you're already in a cap ship. How'd that happen? I suppose my pirate should be on the lookout.
Well, you don't really need any permission from no one. You want it you can buy it. Some people just want to take ownership of a Capship. In to do so, they made something called "Cap Ship Registry". It's not really recommended to make an application, but I would do it if I were you - because this IS a RP server after all.
If you don't, you might get pwned - but guess what? Your ship doesn't go away. It resurrects from the dead. So, anyone that says "That ship is not Registered. All [faction] engage that stolen vessel!" Just stop, and take the hits. And laugh - enjoy it. Believe me, you'll have fun. I haved experience it.
Once you're dead - respawn and vuala! Your BS/CRUISER is brand new. So - wanna buy a BS? Go get it - but i told you the consequences:P

well, the game is called "discovery". And I discovered some very lucrative ways of getting a ****load of credits really fast (200 million / 2-3 hours). So, yes, it is quite possible I have a few cap ships (well, to be honest i sold them again, so i dont have more than 2 cap ships active... i think there is some limitation for getting caps with more than 2 system owning factions). And the best thing: no pirate anywhere near my sources.
Improve Battleships 10x. Remove battleships from selling points and make them admin only.
Admins will get swarmed you say? Make the procurement of a battleship a long RP process, you need to get the 1 billionish cash AND get huge amounts of hull panels, engine components....you get me. This can encourage team effort and an RP effort into this.
No seriously, Battleships are BATTLESHIPS. The PRIDE of any navy.

Meh.
Igiss made the mod to work on a password-free server, with as little restrictions as possible.
I am just asking for a RP process before you can buy a capship. Not restricting it to anyone, you just need to show that you have an understanding of things around here and can use this vessel.
I don't own one, or have a plan to go after it really, but...
I agree with two earlier posts.. one being that BS needs to be much stronger. One fellow suggested "think of your bomber as a fleet itself" Naw, thats not as effective an RP stance as actually hooking up with 3 to 4 others to truly make a small wing of attack bombers and conduct a true battle. So as others have said, the BS should be able to beat 1 or 2 bombers readily, 3 to 4 the battle go either way, 5 or more players its then likely the players will win, etc. It just doesn't make sense for a single or even 2 to win. It's not a real fun RP approach.
I don't think an extensive RP application request is the way to go. Admins don't need the extra work.
And lastly.. I would LOVE to just come and watch a battleship in action in a battle. Is there a particular area where I can just some and be an observer to enjoy a wicked battle (yes, I'm sort of asking to watch a live movie in freelancer lol). I have never seen these things going all out in a pitched fight and really want to see that kind of action.. fights ziping around, gigantic ships close quarters fighting, massive guns and torps flying back and forther, the massive explosions!

I object!!
Discovery is a mod to discover, not to gain more and more restrictions to ships. Why you saying this, anyways? I might be wrong, but in looking at your post number and your date on entry - sounds like you don't have a BS. Your opinion will leave out your head when you buy one - believe me.

Because battleships are seen in the hands of lolwuts who dont have a clue about how they should be used in RP. I am not saying all are such, but many are such.
My main problem is the image I get when I think of a battleship. A massive project to build one, it is the pride of a navy and it's biggest guns. Caps are not as 'big' as I would imagine them to be.
Ah well, as long as caps stay in the hands of competent people, I am happy with the current setup as well.
