Quote:Maybe make a change in that you must have a BS license and up the price to around the BS prices but a little lower. Just a thought. It is a capship that is easily bought and there are too many because of the cheap price.

That's the idea.

Once the change goes through, any players with a geb will still have to buy a bs license before they can use it, and the buying price for the ship itself would go up to that of similar heavy battleships. It's not like everyone's getting a free upgrade - those who decide they dont want to fork out the money for the license can sell the ship back to a dealer and make back roughly the same amount they spent on the original geb before the change.

Either that, or we make it an SRP so that it can only be bought with OHC permission, which will effectively cut the numbers of these ships down to a handful, so that abuse is no longer possible. Once again, the geb was always meant to be a rare ship, but nobody seems to want to enforce that by preventing random bypasses from buying it.

Hmm...

Well changing this into a heavy battleship won't impact on any of the keeper battleships: None of the standard battleships can currently hope to compete against it. It's pretty much lots of bombers now...

Therefore changing the Light Carrier to a Heavy Battleship will not do much, in fact, it would leave The Order with nothing to compete against Nomad Cruisers and Bounty Hunter Battlecruisers - except the Osiris, of which I'm pretty sure there will be many complaints of more order capwhoring.

I'll give you the same theoretical fight that I put in order chat:

Scenario 1:
-Order fleet has one osiris, two fighters, two bombers, attacking a nomad battleship
Result: Osiris gets wrecked before it and it's escorts can even bring the marduk down to half hull.

Scenario 2:
-Order fleet has one Heavy-Battleship type Geb, two bombers, and two fighters attacking the same nomad battleship
Result: Order Heavy BS can soak up enough damage that it and it's escorts are able to bring down the marduk before or just as the geb takes critical damage.

It serves as a tank, something that can withstand the heavy damage thrown at it long enough to achieve a victory. That is something that the order lacks right now, the only way we can contend with a marduk is through a massive bomberswarm, which alone is usually ineffective due to keeper escorts. I've played on both sides of the fence, I've fought with the keepers and against them, it always turns out the same way.

Most importantly, a heavy BS variant of the geb would be able to survive long enough in fleet battles to serve as a leadership craft. I doubt you've ever tried coordinating a fleet worth of indies and RP'ing with the enemy fleet at the same time in the current geb, but you usually end up as the first ship destroyed on the order's side. So much for an RP vessel, when it doesnt survive long enough to actually RP.

The geb's point defense capability right now is so pathetic that it can be taken out by four fighters before it's own fighter escorts can destroy the attackers.

I highly doubt that Scenario 2 will work.

I'll do the math when I wake up properly (5:38am here...)

Or you could do the math for me, save me the trouble and prove me wrong:)

Already done the math, just dont feel like doing it again, i had to prove that point to the others in order chat last night.

A marduk can fire for roughly 18 seconds before running out of energy, over that timeframe it does roughly 5 million damage. An osiris with cap 4 only has roughly 3 million hull strength, so despite using bats/bots it will still end up dead. A heavy battleship like the liberty carrier, on the other hand, will have just over 4 million hull strength, so with bats/bots it would just survive the marduk's initial onslaught, while returning similar damage of it's own, in combination with that of it's escorts.

The biggest problem with the Geb is the low cost and absolutely no defense against bombers or fighters
I mean just one or two bombers will rape a Geb.
Also Tenacity is right about attacking a Marduk, the Order need a hugh fleet just to defeat one. When that happens the Order will be called a bunch of gankers.
That said I like the geb despite it's flaws and have some success with it. But against bombers I am defenseless.

Death Before Dishonour!
Honour above all!

"Light Carrier" is an oxymoronic term. When you look at the ship's size, the oxy prefix begins to fade out.

Thank you, at least not everyone here is against a sensible idea -_-
