I think home planets should at least have the capability of orbital defense. Like Bloodl1ke mentioned, it's kinda lame how enemy battleships can just take a nap in front of your home planet.
How about CD - EMP - Platforms, doing both at the same time?
I like the idea, but the placement must be exact.
If they are in the wrong spots they'd either be useless or to powerfull.
Another thing is people running there, but well. If you fight close enough to a enemy base, you deserve it if your enemy runs there. As I said ... placement.
Destructable platforms? Mh...Only if they are very ... very ... very ... well, almost indestructable.
Again, any weapon can be given the EMP property, in addition to it's damage blast. If you want a truly nasty combination, take the current TCD missile, add the battleship missile damage statistics and use 2 launchers per turret. Bit extreme, but it gives you the general idea.
