To clarify. You choose a role and create your character around that or you create a character and choose a role for that character.
No. My characters evolve by their actions ingame.
All other stuff would be additions but it is not needed to play that particular role.
I prefer the 'old-school' roleplay and have started with AD&D a long time ago.
There was no need of a background story or bio as my old group started.
Our chars grew like our experiences enhanced.
After years our chars have indeed a bio but a real bio which reflects the actions the chars already performed.
If you create a fictional story and play a char of that story I call it acting. *shrugs*

I agree with you. But I believe that having a background for your character in the first place helps you play the role better.
Thug the Warrior is all well and good, but what about Thug the Warrior who's fighting to regain the honor that his family lost when they turned to necromancy. Both are roles, but the second one I'd prefer playing because I've created a motive for him.
I can't help it, it sounds like powertrader ID to me (again). Why not join one of the actuall corporations? The logical answer is tonot be affilated, to have no ZoI, to have no enemies.
Or that's how it would be used, no matter if you inted it to be used this way, or to "create" new company. In RP I actually think that making a space-trading corporation would be almost impossible, since if you started to prosper, the existing ones would kill you off.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.

Both are the same role, warrior, its just how you play them out. Lets say for example, Kishiro transport pilot is a role. How you play it is the role play.
Also, there is a heavy balance component in the equation. All the ID's have to be balanced right or we end up with a situation like in 4.84 where virtually no one used the corporate IDs because there was not much incentive to use them instead of the generics. 4.85 have been wonderful in terms of corporate ID, and we have seen a dramatic increase in the use of Corporate IDs and the amount and complexity of Corporate rp. I think this type of ID would really throw off the balance, and would undercut much of the gains that have been made in the use of Corporate IDs.
Why do we need it anyway? We can always stay with FL ID in any case.
Removing Smuggler, Independant Trader and Mercenary IDs would be quite good, since none of them really contribute to mod.
To smuggle, you can use corporate ships or FL / Junkers.
To trade independantly, you can use Freelancer ID too.
' Wrote:Why not have house based corporation IDs- that way there is still a trade-off between the current independent trader ID, which has freedom of movement, and a larger corporation which sacrifices some freedom for a larger hold.
Eg.
Bretonian Corporation ID:(...)
Nice idea.
Same for removal of other generic IDs (but this one would require some work on rules regarding tech use, I guess).
Freelancer ID, Heron - there you go
and the 3800 cargo hold limit should be more then enough to make you bored after 3-4 hours
of trading.
Powertrade anyone?
