In most situations, a well piloted bomber can defeat a fighter. Because the bomber has more firepower, armor and nanobots than the fighter.

I still haven't flown a R Bomber but will get one this weekend, so until then I can't really comment other than to say that the ones I've fought against seem quite agile. Certainly more agile than the original Titan.
What Korrd says is possibly true if a pilot is very skilled, but I suspect that those that don't want changes are those that like flying the Bomber. Although there are ways to deal with agile fighters, agility does count for a lot if a pilot knows how to use it. The Bomber should have no agility advantage over any fighter.
For me it's just a question of game logic and balance - something with 2 torp mounts shouldn't fly like a fighter, it should as Dab says be more like a freighter. Otherwise everyone will want a Bomber and no-one will want to fly anything else - just like the original Eagle. Making it more expensive doesn't really solve that.
Role-played characters:
daedalus - Liberty Navy
bandersnatch - Ruthless criminal possessed by a (huge) alien
Shredder - Small-time Kusari pirate, looking to join the Blood Dragons
"Bounty Hunters. We don't need that scum." - Admiral Piett
Korrd mentioned that the Eagle could out manuver a bomber. Well thats the Eagle, it is the most agile VHF. Take a Titan and bomber and restrict the use of engine kill and the bomber would turn the exact same as the titan, if not better. It should not be able to match any of the VHFs in terms of agility.
hey guys, i posted a suggestion/request a while back and i havent gotten any reference to is since. it is about the HOMEWORLD models. pls post about request.
2Acer: Your suggestion may be taken into account for future versions. Creating beam weapons is a bit tricky, and finding Homeworld sounds is even more tricky. I don't really have time for that now.
2Dab: Thanks for clearing this up...
Probably Rheinland Bomber should have some 20% less agility then original Titan. I suppose that would be fair... but we'll have to test this cause weapon/maneuverability balance is hard to achieve.
I also need your opinions on the subject of making battleships much harder to handle than they are now. This could help to avoid fighters bumping them up and down when colliding, however it will make flying a battleship a troublesome business. I made battleships much more agile then in other mods right from the start of Discovery. However, we might consider changing this.
Or, we may leave all battleships except for Rheinland as they are... and reduce agility of Rheinland BS, making it much more expensive and tough than others.
Trade lanes stay as they are, and the change won't influence much how difficult it is to dock. Did I tell that I wanted to unlock up/down thrust keys? Well... I did. Seems that found way to do this.
I don't realy see a fix to the battleship problem.
making them less agile in return for more mass ratio so they don't get bumped around like a ping pong ball really wouldn't do much to the ships. Just make them less flyable and as a result, less people will buy em.
on the flip side of the arguement, i have to agree... getting caught in a battleship when there is like 20 fighters around you causes MAJOR LAG.
So... I'd vote to keep them as is, just ass the straffing ability.

leave the battleships as is, there fine how they are , just have to be careful with them, rather have a agile ship then litteral brick if you know what i mean.
