Uh! No researcher ID? Why was it replaced by a simple freelancer ID?
The whole Cambridge Stellar Research was based on that. First, you took liners from us. I said, okay, we can still continue with the Corvo and with smaller ships. But now you simply take away the whole researcher? Before we had this:

1. Can trade. Cannot escort traders.
2. Cannot participate in unlawful actions.
3. Can fire on other ships only in selfdefense.
4. Cannot use any transports with more than 2,000 cargo
And now we can:
Quote: fulfill bounty contracts. (uhm, why would a researcher do that?)
May not engage in piracy outside of a posted bounty contract
May treat trade vessels as combat targets in pursuit of bounty contracts (No, thanks we liked the selfdefense part)
Cannot use any transports with more than 3600 cargo
So now, a Vigilante, Independent trader, Mercenary etc. is the same as a researcher?
Sorry, but I really don't like this. We had some privilege by having a distinguished role, and not only a freelancer, who can do anything what he wants.

I think the first Freelancer ID was the Civilian ID and they wanted two. OR they just renamed by accident. OR we will be enlighted by one of the devs.
Edit: Oh, good god there are three not two! Even more explanations.
Edit 2: Also, this crossed my head. Try reinstalling/restarting your game, it could be a bug.
Edit 3: Or, they wanted to point out that trader/smuggler/civilian is a Freelancer. No need for different named IDs.

As I have mentioned above, Vigilante, Independent trader, Mercenary, smuggler, slaver IDs are now all converted to freelancer.
Edit: THEY ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!! And I think we need all those! Not just the faction IDs
