Are you sure? I know that people tend to like to believe 'their' branch of music is underground and misunderstood, and so on, because it gives them that nice little in-group glow.
Nowadays there is no kind of Music which is underground. Me and my Friends have Parties under Autobahn Bridges and small Houses which are meant for Hikers, that's underground, but it's only like that because there's a lack of Hardstyle/Hardcore/Schranz/Full-On Clubs.

I don't see tons of lolrandom posts and so forth.
Because it was meant to troll/confuse Admins/Moderators/members that someone re-posted the "Why was Dubstep banned?"-Thread
"Who is it doing this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic funkin'?"
A fashion trend. With no lasting legacy in the future. Well at least it alls what it seems to me. And yeah it's kinda new wave of pop music. Don't understand me wrong, there is a lot og good pop music, but.. meh. Only decent thing I heard from dubstep was chase and status heartbeat remix. And still.. after listening it a couple of times I'm not planing to get back to it. Ever.
Anyway, it's funny. A few years ago, I thought that DnB and Dubstep might not really get close to becoming popular much. Too much of it sounds too harsh and 'dirty' etc.
2008 / 9, it suddenly starts to go everywhere, even pop songs start to use a few tiny bits and pieces from dub and dnb. Now everyone knows skrillex, datsik, excision etc.
On that note, a friend dragged me to a Skrillex concert a few months ago. Enjoying his stuff since, didn't listen to him much before.
But yeah, for being popular it might as well just be another trend that'll stop being popular after a while.
