Yoran enters the bar; he's still wearing the lower half of a pressurized flight suit, and he hangs the upper half and the helmet near the entrance door. The weary middle-aged man clears some dust from his wrinkled blouse, then heads to the bar with a tired pace.
"Oi. Gimme a... uh, I don't even know..."looks around,"...whiskey seems populat tonight, sign me in."He waits for his glass while scanning the room, and notices Matilda not far away."Well, if that isn't an unusual sight here..."he chuckles as he grabs his whiskey and walks towards her, taking a seat in front of her;"Good evening, miss. How do you like our fine estabilishment? Not the kind of refined place your family is accustomed to, I fear, but we're simple folks with simple needs."Yoran smiles at the young girl, then takes a sip from his glass.
Matilda looks up at Yoran. "Thank god I have been looking for you"
She pauses to take a sip of her gin her ring chinking on the glass. "I have some news for you, some of it you might know or can guess"
She chinks her ring a little. "First of all Father has changed for the better he is now realised that he will drive himself mad if he cannot accept me for who I am"
She takes another sip, ring chinking away. "Second of all the child that I carry is not Felix's it's David Avant's, I realised that after checking with a doctor who said that the child was too far gone for it to be Felix's"
She pauses. "Thirdly when I confronted David he confessed that everything he has done for me was out of love, and you know what? I love him too"
She starts to swoon.
Confused as all hell, and deciding paperwork regarding treaty formalization would be more fun than sticking around in the bar, Kane downs the rest of his drink and walks towards the exit.
Seeing a junker enter, he hands him a small plastic card. "Welcome to the Razor's Edge. Here's a card for ten free drinks. You're gonna need them." He then proceeds to walk straight out and head towards his office.
Daniel entered the bar just as Kane was leaving. There were probably things he'd like to say to him, but it was the high hours of the bar, drinks, women and fun fun fun. He walked into the bar confidently, only to be held up by the usual gun and weapon check. "Hey bartender! Shoot a strong one my way!" He said after he was granted the all clear.
The bartender chuckles and reaches under the counter, procuring a bottle of violet-red alcohol. He pours a glass three quarters full of vodka, then measures out a teaspoon of the purplish liquid and drops it in, smiling as the introduced fluid swirls around the contents of the glass, forming a thick-looking cloud suspended in the middle of the Coalition-produced water-with-benefits.
"One very potent Squamish Nebula for you, Raider. Let's hope ya don't find any ghosts, eh?" he announces, leaving the drink on the counter in front of a barstool for Daniel.
Katyusha stops at the entrance to the bar and tries, in vain, to read the sign hung above. "Nonna, what does the sign say?""It says 'Razor's Edge Pub". Katyusha continues in to the bar, followed by Nonna.
After being checked for weapons, Katyusha walks into the bar and takes a seat at a table off to the side. "Nonna, a bottle of vodka and two glasses." Nonna goes up to the bar and orders. "A bottle of Coalition vodka and two glasses, comrade."
All the while, the occupants of the bar are staring at the new arrivals. Nonna looks fairly normal, but Katyusha is another matter. it is not everyday that the bar sees a 4 foot tall blonde female Kapitan of the coalition visit.
Daniel takes the drink with pleasure and takes a sip.
"So bartender," he says, amusement in his voice, "what's going on tonight?" He scans the room quickly, still amazed at the large amount of people in the Pub.
"A bottle of Coalition vodka and two glasses, comrade." Daniel and the bartender turn to see a Coalition Kaptain, standing out like a sore thumb. Seeing this, Daniel took a bullet and spoke first.
"Mind my intrusion, but its not everyday I see a Coalition Kaptain, especially so close to Liberty."
Yoran listens to the girl, then smiles lightly;"Well, good news then. I'm happy that you managed to settle things with your family."he takes a sip from his whiskey."And about the child... well, I'm not going to inquire about the details, but frankly I'm glad that he's gonna have a living father. I wish you a bright future, miss."Yoran raises his glass as a toast to those last words.
She acknowledged the toast. "Thank you Yoran it means a lot to me."
She takes a sip of her gin. "Yoran I just hope one day the child will see it's homeland at peace."
She pulls out her dataslate. "You said something about New Vancouver what is it like?"
She finishes her gin. "Who ever came up with the idea of alcohol free gin needs a medal, only thing is they don't last as long"
She gets up to get another. "Hang on a moment."
After a few minutes she comes back with a drink but is white as a sheet. "Coalition two of them, they hate people like me."
"Uhm?"Yoran turns around following Matilda's gaze and notices the Coalition folks;"Oh I wouldn't know, they always behaved like perfectly civil people with us. Why would they hate you?"he asks her with a puzzled expression on his face.
He then finishes his whiskey with a last gulp;"As for New Vancouver, it's our capital city... well, mostly our only city for now. There's a few other minor settlements nearby, built by people who purchased islands and plots of land, but nothing big. The capital itself is still under development; building under biodomes is no simple task, and we have to plan the city layout with its future expansion needs in mind. Still, it's turning out a wonderful place, expecially at dusk: the domes reflect the reddish sunlight, and it looks like the city is in flames."he pauses for a second, lost in some thought."I'm still amazed myself at how far we managed to get with the limited resources at our disposal; now with the Treaty officialized, we hope that the peculiar location of our system will attract more trade from the other Houses."
