Yeah, look at it from the pirates' POV: you prey onto traders million by million, then there's a guy, either thrusting away or being silent or trying to avoid paying fine - then you see an other (usually lawful) guy at your butt.
If both sides avoid making the worst mistakes, these situations can become better.
I fly battletransports, with high CAU armors (usually CAU 8) to have a pewpew option when I do not like the situation.
However I nearly always try to rp and I gladly pay good pirates, do what they want and/or spend quality time rping.
There are however lines that make me go into: "ye, f u. Die" mode.
This is my list of don'ts:
> Pirate: "30 seconds to pay... 25...."
If pirates count, I shoot them, preferrably while they are typing. They want my time, they have to give me theirs. Typetrapped + 10 Charons. Lovely.

There always is. It's an interaction between characters/poeple/players. And "rp with guns is also rp" may be true, but it is a rather weak and boring form of rp in most piracy situations.
> Cargo demands IF the pirate doesn't have a transport vessel present
> "Drop all cargo"
I only comply to cargo demands if there is a transport present. And even if, I only hand over the amount that the pirate can carry. I never hand over all cargo because gameplaywise this makes no sense (stuck mid-route, no cargo; It's easier to start at the start again). The sentence "A friend will pick it up" is a lie in (conservative guess) 80+ percent, and an excuse to be a duck. I never believe it. Actually this line was fake in 100 % of the situations I cared enough to check, but I know some pirates/factions that actually ask for transports, so I go for 80+ %.
Generally: be interested in the interaction, please!
I understand that pirates to not want to listen to the story of their victims' lives. Fine. But if they do not want to allow for some conversation that fits the situation, they deserve nothing more than Charons to the hull or a boring chase to the next safe place.
Ahhh... finally posted in a pirate-trader thread again.
Feels like... 2012.

Who asks for cargo nowadays, honestly?
As I'm not type of a pirate that goes 10 million or die, it's quite annoying to see a trader not stopping at all, pushing in cruise all the time and not replying - ending up in constant CD and at least two warnings to cut the cruise, usually followed by destruction of the trading vessel. The other problem is that some of them even go further and start to engage pirates all of sudden, without dropping a single word (I don't even bother to report such people).
On the other hand, I have never ran away from a pirate encounter (note: pirate encounters, as meeting a Xeno or guy after bounty is usually a death sentence), just for sake of trading in peace and the fact I usually earn more than these 2-3 million credits. I don't get why people, especially in a ship that has no ability to defend, still try to run away - usually losing 2 hours in game, rather than to pay percent of their earn and just get over with it.

Ya, poor pirates.
Are you kidding me? 99% of the pirates I meet go with a couple pretty simple probably preset messages and shoot right away when you dont write ok in 5 miliseconds. Then again, some times you meet some nice guys. Like this time I got intercepted in omega 47 by 2 corsairs, and there I went to explain my drama, of how my 'mama' was sick in a hospital at gran canaria and her last wish was to see her only son and blablabla, for short after some long and nice RP they ended up escorting me out of the system instead of shooting me down. That was some memorable interaction.
By the way, when I used to fly as a Rogue I expected to be shot at, have the ship damaged, being chased by the police or the bunters, that was all part of it. The most rare thing was a successful piracy attempt. And THAT is the fun of it. Piracy is not supposed to be easy, anyway.

Same here. I usually chill on my Junker for random interactions, no matter if piracy or not (I had a pretty unexpected flight with The Congress, which was damn funny). But then, take into account that it cannot be "too hard". Pirates are to extort traders, traders are to earn money. I can relate to both, because I'm doing both and, depending on the situation however, traders have it easier.
On the other hand, we aren't EVE Online with thousands of players, so it might be hard to look for interaction in these 100 systems with barely 70 players online... If piracy gets too hard for pirates, they simply don't log. There are no interactions. And then, trading gets boring - and if trading gets boring, less people log traders. And if less traders are in the game, there's nothing to do for pirates. And so on, and so on.
ok its very interesting topic that i am very glad that its open now. I am one of the new players in this server, Some pirates i meet i enjoy the RP with them and i give them more than what they demand. and some others i rather consume all my nano and shield and destroy my cargo but you are not getting a thing from me.
without naming anyone there is pirates when i meet i run to where they are coz i enjoy RP with them and i laugh till i fall on the floor with my friends from how quality RP and fun they give and some others... i simply avoid them.
I was surprised and shocked from some pirates have an official faction tag and all they want is money they do not even give me chance to RP and have a conversation. what do you expect me to do with someone like this ? either avoid him or tell him how much you want ? here is the money move on.
I am not asking the pirate to be nice its not even logical pirate can be rude and thief its normal he is a pirate. but when i see the dollar sign in his eyes and he doesn't even want to RP he is in a hurry to get money then no thank you i am the wrong person.
I do believe pirates have the right to make money as well some people enjoy trading others enjoy pirating and etc i am new yes but this is how i look at it and this is what i would call a balance in the server.

On my pirate characters , I always welcome any kind of interaction , but when you see so many of "no english(" or "10 mills is too much kill me" you start looking at all traders the same way even if you don't want to.I mean, if you encounter a silent trader and let him escape while typing , you don't get your money , he doesn't learn from his mistakes , nobody wins.
So traders can't blame the pirates if they are acting suspicious. It is pretty unpleasant when someone asks "oh mighty pirate, why are you robbing us you are so evil!!" and a Dunkirk appears on top of you. Moral of this writing is that the environment push pirates to act paranoid , and vice versa.
But really, if I don't see you powertrading 24-7 nor you tried to run silently before, I ask for 3-4 millions maximum, and thats symbolic.
