How about your thruster and cruise get disabled and all that stuff, but only if you aren't carrying fuel, which is a commodity.
This commodity is perishable, and is sold on every base except maybe some like border stations.
Shipyards and GMG stations sell it for less than other bases.
It would make carriers and battleships more than just gun platforms. 1 unit could maybe last 2 min or so. This way, battleships and carriers especially could carry large amounts of fuel, to give to fighters when needed.
A ship with 1000 units could stay in space for over 33 hours, while a fighter could carry over an hour's worth.
This would be good for RP, a ship that runs out of fuel could send out a distress call or something and ask for help.
Would make things a lot more interesting, and encourage teamwork.
Oh, and it should cost about 100-200 credits for one unit. Not too expensive.
If it would be possible though, make lower class ships have fuel that lasts longer? To help new players out?
Or maybe make the fuel system only affect people above level 30?
Maybe have a nomad generator commodity that counts as fuel, costs 1 credit on nomad bases but is worth a lot on human bases, especially Order, and is not perishable?
That would solve the Keeper/Wilde issue.

What he said.
<strike>While we are at it, why not have pilot blackout if you don't carry oxygen in your cargo that runs out over time,or you starve if you don't have provisions, and you need to carry a portable toilet for having your character to emtpy his stuff. And a bed so you can sleep or you will fall asleep and your ship will steer forward for half a minute and you crash into a planet.</strike>
Realisim can bring fun, but also mess up. Too much work for little gain in my eyes.
I'd rather keep it as now, make it optional for people to carry fuel/oxygen/supplies etc in their cargo if they wanna RP it.
Well I don't know who zombified this, but the idea was rejected generaly anyway.
there are some good pros tho.
one of them being the fuel distributors and fuel demand would be great!
Example can be fighters freighters bombers and transports get Hfuel. Gunboats as well.
Capships need more exotic fuel like deut, mox and plutonium maybe?
Either way, it opens up the fuel distribution business.
I'm sure half of you wouldn't mind simply calling some fuel distributor to sell you the fuel and not to go somewhere yourself.
keep in mind that these ships probably won't come from the place where Hfuel and Deuterium are the cheapest and that would be the biggest fun of it.
basically it would show the side of the economy we haven't seen yet and that was my primary idea.
get this: We all know that Artifacts / Cardamine / Black market munitions etc come from borderworlds (edge worlds) and they come to junkers. then junkers transport it from there to the end destinations.
however, this isn't represented in game alot as it seems that everyone simply cutts off the middleman. What kinda removes the part of the economy that could be sweet. or bad.. i have no idea.
but yeah the cons are bit higher and I get that people want the game not simulation so its all cool
The idea of "fuel" with multiple possible implementations was extensively discussed during 4.85 development. It was ultimately discarded. Of course there is point in discussing it, it's good to know the public opinion.
Now to my own opinions: While the added bit of realism could be fun to someone, it would be a huge and obtrusive burden to others. Actually, it would be obtrusive even to most of the people who would generally favour the idea. One of the nice things abut FL is its arcade nature, where you don't have to worry about much. This would be too large a change from it.
This provides a sort of RP, but not necessarily fun. It would force a burden on you and you would just have to like it and have fun with it? While our server is about RP, it never was about this kind, so don't be surprised when some people want it to stay that way.
