There was a Freelancer demo on one of my games, which was pretty awesome. Then one day I found the full game and bought it. Played it and messed with some mods etc on singleplayer, then I lost the CD and stopped playing it.
In around '08 I had an urge to play it again, so the .iso magically found its way onto my computer. Then I went looking for mods and found Disco, and here I am.
What's weird is that for some reason in '07 I made this account on the forums, having no idea what Disco was. Then in '08 I came back and found this account and the mod.
[10:10:28 AM] Josh (Dejavu): Bauer is legendary to the LPI, I joined because I wanted to be that epic.
Saw it at a friends house, it was awesome.
Bought it months later (couldn't find it anywhere cheap) and played singleplayer with all sorts of mods over and over again.
After that I joined the first online server, the first Clan etc.
Prime time was to play in a Rheinland-simulating Clan on the Nima eSport server which hosted the Nomad Revenge II 2.29 mod.
I remember I bought the game, and on the way home from the store, I saw the luxury liner on the box and said "I want to pilot that." But alas I couldnt. But the SP campaign kept me intersted. All throughout the campaign I remember that I really wanted Juni's ship...
Then I found disco like 3 years back. Traded for a year, took a break for a year, and here I am again.
Edit: I remember I got it at Fred Meyer for like 15 bucks.
I remember years back playing the demo from a CD. Eventually got the full game for my birthday- around 2003, I guess. Started on Disco around April '09.
Freelancer - a friend told me about it over skype and we tried it in Hamburg City server.
Discovery - years later I had nostalgia for the game so I decided to find a server, and so I did - Disco. (Had the most people and I never minded the RP side of it)
My brother suggested it. I played it. I liked it. I put it in the cupboard.
A few years later, he suggested we try multiplayer over a LAN. We played it and it was ok...for a short while.
It hit the cupboard.
A few years later, we got tired of first person shooters and decided to try this on multiplayer server together for a laugh. He and I have been here killing each other ever since (as well as the 1st person shooters).
Been looking at space trading games ever since Elite on the old Spectrum 48k back in 1981 (Wireframe graphics in black & white). Played various games over the years and came to Freelancer about 10 years ago, found it for 99p in a charity shop. Loved the SP game, but didn't have internet back then and slung it in a cupboard after a while. Was clearing out the cupboard about 6 weeks ago and found it again, so I thought; "Hey, I used to like this. I wonder if it will work on Win7?"
It did, so I decided to look for mods to play online and after trying out 'The Next Generation' from Starfire decided to look at others. After trying Disco, decided to look no further.
I especially love the way it is not just a combat sim, that it caters to trading, exploring, mining, guilds, cooperative play, etc, etc.
Need I go on?
I played the demo of FL in '05 then stopped, then played the demo again in '07 bought freelancer trough Ebay, and downloaded disco mod cause it looked interesting and well, Jan '08 I joined the forum:P
