I've gotten into ONE fight with it, and have pirated around 32,500,000 mill. I LOVE to RP.
Without firing a shot or really ANY of the above.
And um, I know some HF, so do refraim from insulting them, mkay?
This is not a flamewar thread. Please dont flame.
The,RP you find is what, you make of it. You be a cynic, pessimist, etc, you never will find good RP.
No,I am not flaming.I am stating facts. You can also consider this indirect feedback. If negative feedback is flaming, how do people give feedback? You can also consider this a flame thread despite what the topic poster is saying.I am,like the topic poster, giving my feedback on the rp of Liberty. This time, however,I am talking about how the other side might also be just as bad/worse/slightly better only.
No,this is a fact, that is not good rp.Let's say that your country y has a war with x.You get called to battle. You don't just walk into x's most defended base/capital and openly mock z guy of country x and ask him for a one on one despite war vehicles and the number of soldiers around you. That is not good rp.I think logically, not using my emotions.Okay, maybe my emotions go with my logic. And my logic and emotions say that this rp is not good.
And I am not insulting people you know,I did not state that they were the black sheeps who make people think the wrong stuff about sheeps.I said that I hate some of the people inside the official faction. You can, again, consider this indirect feedback. And it's not like I can rp with people who abuse oorp aspects of the game to make their in-rp goal a success. You push me,I can get mad,so if you abuse this,I can get mad too.
Oh and,I am a realist,a glass is ALWAYS full, nothing less.No matter what happens.Even if you pour the water out or fill it to the brim.
Stop it.Seriously, stop whining.Stop Q_Qing and stop trolling.Stop exaggerating things which are minor, stop whining about stuff which happens every time the blue moon appears.Stop Q_Qing because people do not comply to your wishes. This is not your personal universe where you can lord everyone around and judge people using your emotions.Think logically.Think.Just think.
I'm gone.Goodbye.
' Wrote:More than 30 seconds to 1 minute of roleplay, that's for sure.
5 minutes would be ideal, but I'll take 3 if you're in a hurry.
And if you really want to make my day, do try to arrest me. It would be all kinds of fun.
What kind of roleplay do you expect, then ? You know, it's not really possible to have an uber-RP session for 5 hours with every pirate you meet. It's not quite enjoyable to encounter pirates as a lawful character either, atleast not at the 23985390583th a day, and 80% of those 23985390583 being that kind of pirate that see my tag and just shoot at me.
' Wrote:You know what? Some of the [HF],I hate them.Because, they behave exactly like the above. You go there, find an oorp weak spot, and use it as a staging ground to mock Liberty Navy.Using oorp stuff to achieve in-rp stuff, this is so cool! And the best of all, nobody will bother to take screenshots, because this is not against the rules. So nobody will take screenshots of me doing oorp stuff to do in-rp stuff,so I can remain in faction!Even if I don't,I won't get sanctioned, who cares.I can always join Hackers.ololololol.
The unlawfuls I hate the most are the hacker iff'd criminal dudes. Most of you always like to take advantage of oorp knowledge and stuff to go and do something in-rp.I really really hope that this comes under 1.2 so I can wtfreport them because they are oorp'ing like mad.Sorry, you think you are awesome at rp by doing this?I'm telling you the exact opposite.
Won't talk about lawfuls.Everyone else has covered their own points.
They see me trollin' they hatin'....
I'm just gunna pop in to reply to this bit as XO of the faction and all...
You know who I really hate? The LR- All they do is pirate my trader and shoot if I don't pay, so OORP OMG SANCTION!
Know who else really pisses me off? The [LN]- All they do is shoot at pirates it's ridiculous they should all be banned.
And don't even get me started on the SCRA, they're clearly just an in RP tool to spread their OORP socialist propaganda, I mean wtf man.
No. It's the LR-'s roleplay to pirate, because they're pirates.
It's the [LN]'s roleplay to shoot at criminals because well... okay, technically it's the LPI's, but nobody wants to fly an LF because they're death machines, but it still works out.
And it's the SCRA's roleplay to try and turn Sirius into their own personal socialist (formerly communist) paradise, because that is the ideal that they follow.
Likewise, it is the [HF]'s roleplay to try and usurp Liberty's gov't and lawful organizations in hopes of changing it from a totalitarian police state in their eyes (I mean an -incorporated- police force, Navy doing the actual policing, etc) into a house truly worthy of the name "Liberty".
The only true way to get along on disco and not be an societal outcast of either sort is to enjoy both PvP and RP, Because PvP = RP and RP = PvP.
Sure, you'll find the occasional silent reengager who lol's at you, but just as often you'll find the Navy LABC that's sitting next to a base inviting you to sit down for tea and crumpets (This isn't Bretonia so bad example but roll with it), and is like totally shocked when he gets blown up by the [RM] or [HF], despite it being the roleplay of those two factions to do so.
Now log on and try to fix the problem instead of being a part of it on here. I leave you with a song for inspiration.

Lies. Libbies are good fighters. It takes patience and skill to fly a LF. That's why people hate LF. But it's fun. ten times more so than a VHF.
on topic: there is rp in liberty. It's just harder to find than in bretonia or rheinland. Same applies for the Omicrons.
To start with, I'll say that Liberty has masses of awesome roleplay. Funny, serious, agressive, heart rendingly sad, thought provoking and brilliant. It also has moments which just make you want to gouge your own eyes out at the stupidity of it all. I love Liberty. It's vibrant.
Those who often complain about the quality of roleplay in Liberty, I often find myself thinking things about perceptions and pre-concieved ideas of what roleplay is. Lack of flexibility in people's minds about how stuff works.
Each and every one of us has differing ideas of what constitutes good roleplay. What events, situations and conclusions should happen. Each and every one of those opinions is wrong... And right.
I'll look at this from a pirate's perspective for a moment.
I'm Jimmy Rogue McRoguerson. I pirate and throw my undeniably badass weight around. Beating up on traders, the weak and powerless, in order to make my daily bread. I am the ultimate badass. Like all successful badass pirates, I'm not going to get myself into a situation I can't lie, cheat, steal or shoot my way out of, because dying is bad for business.
I also smoke. Heavily.
I've got a tattoo on my left asscheek which tallys up all the piracy operations I've done, navy pilots splashed when they were dumb enough to try and take me alone, as well as the number of times I've bribed my way to freedom and escaped by other means.
And lets have a look at a navy character as well.
I'm Thomas Cruisengine, top gun navy pilot, best of the freakin' best. Not even a tiny hint of weakness or facial hair going on here. I've got charm and clean-cut awesome flowing from every pore. I protect the weak and have a strong sense of right and wrong. Maybe I'm a little gung-ho about it, but hey, they're all murderous bastards out there, so I'm alright just giving back whats handed out. Yeah?
My training was a montage.
If I run across pirates on my patrol, I'm not gunna give second chances. They've made their bed so they may as well just lay in it now. I'm gunna do my duty and shoot them. It's the government line and hell it's mine too. The Liberty Monomyth is embodied in me. Look at my shiny medals.
Now both of these archetype characters may well be extremely well developed, complete, believable and enjoyable to interact with. But what happens when they meet. Well... lets see...
<Insert military style comms blabber here> Got a pirate on the pipe, he's in the middle of extorting money from some trader. Got the bastard red handed.
Well looky here, navy kid ain't worth a dime, tryin' to stop me doin' business as business goes. I'll try my list of tricks to get rid of him.
Going in weapons hot, lets take out the trash.
Wait, wait, this ain't part of the script. Wanna take a bribe?
Looks like you're all out of luck pirate, eat plasma, filthbag.
God damn trigger happy navy. Their actions don't fit with my idea of the plotline for my cleverly worked out character. This sucks. What crappy RP.
God damn stupid pirate, thinking my well constructed, clean cut, incorruptible navy type is just some trigger happy pvp whoring excuse for a character. This sucks. Crappy RP everywhere, and every time I do anything I get yelled at. Lame.
Now this situation could be reversed, it could happen anywhere, and involve any number of different character archetypes. The problem comes when people think their RP world revolves around their characters, their plotlines and their ideas of how the character relations should work. That's a real problem and one which can only be addressed with a shift in conciousness from one or both people involved.
Now I'm not saying that I'm not guilty of this myself. I'm as self interested as the next guy, and I can accept that. But for people to stop assuming everything is crappy RP when things which don't fit in their script happen, they're just gunna have to throw out the script, and just sit on the character's personality and ideals.
This in my opinion is the best way of testing your acting ability. Just going with the flow and unfolding situation. Rather than being bummed out when stuff doesn't fit in your plotline, just do away with the plot. The beauty of roleplay is that unexpected things happen. You have to think on your feet, letting your brain sink into the conciousness of a character you've created. Don't get too focussed on events and situations, but rather think about how you'd react to them. Sure, you might blow up, but who cares? It's probably the result of the same internal character thought happening on the other side of the situation.
That said, there's plenty of really crappy RP floating around as well. I always find myself vaguely annoyed when I see LNS-FULLCAPSNAME dropping out my immersion by randomly and wordlessly popping some poor guy in a light fighter, while the LF desperately tries to engage the guy in some negotiation for his capture.
On top of that, if you're finding yourself lacking in good roleplay, then go instigate something. That doesn't mean some massive plotline, involving hundreds of people and taking months to complete... I just mean, let your character's personality shine out, and see how people react to it. For roleplay to be good it doesn't have to go your way. It doesn't have to be long... Hell, five words could be the best damned RP in the world, if they're the perfect five words for the situation.
Better to light a candle than sit complaining about the dark.
(although it's probably better to complain about the dark than watch your house burn down).
I think you said everything that needed to be said Joe. But it's still nice for Jimmy to get at least 3 lines before Thomas shoots his head off.
Pirate, you are caught red handed pirating.
This is goodnight for you.
Prepare to die.
This is all I ask. It's much better than "Pirate, die." as most liberty Lawfuls do. To be honest, you usually get a single line when you're out numbered and out gunned. If you get caught by a lone fighter, they will usually RP long enough to get support. But if you get a couple of funboats and a cruiser drop out of the lane, while you're pirating in your light fighter, it just ain't fun to get a single line and die before you even have a chance to hit your cruise button.
Edit: Also why couldn't it be the Navy boy OORPing? :o
Joe, that was a beautiful post. It almost makes me want to go to Liberty and try it out. Almost.
I didn't leave Liberty because of lollery, or oorp engagements. I left because it felt like too many people were there, too little representation elsewhere. So my trade routes generally went around Liberty, and my characters were in different houses. These days there seems like more of a balance though, which is nice.
I used to do a lot of Outcast-y stuff in Liberty, and when I got caught by the authorities, I'd expect a beating, but I wouldn't let them off lightly. I'm one of those people who just won't shut up during the fight.
If you aren't a high speed touch typist, you can always save a few setmsgs, and use them depending on the situation.
"Jeez, that wing's gonna to cost a couple transport heists to fix."
"You call that shooting, navy? THIS is shooting!"
"I see you called your buddies. Well that's just fine, I called mine."
"Call the Junkers, I'm about to make a mess of this one!"
For example. Small things like this help to keep both sides feeling like they're still RPing, and not just PVPing.
