Is a distinct and specific voice in your head, a real voice. Raspy? Empathetic? Calm? Angry? All up to the Nomad transmitting it.
This is a pretty good compromise. Just talk directly into their brain, attempting to mould your RP in such a manner that cultural differences are obviously noticeable.

Asterisks are nothing but a technicality. They indicate telepathy rather than "regular sound".
Honestly, telepathy to me makes a million times more sense than Nomads building translation machines or growing human mouths to speak normally.
Plus, the whole "skillset" - regular "speech", visions, and even things like "electrical surges" makes for a lot of options during roleplay.
Whether or not all those options have been used to their maximum potential is something that could be discussed, but I don't think anything is inherently wrong about telepathy as "the" way for Nomads to communicate.

Demonstrating your own ignorance does not make you look any smarter.
The way Nomads speak when they use their most basic form of communication, being cryptic / poetic / metaphoric / whatever you think is appropriate is a result of the difference in thinking between the two species. Nomads are translating pieces of their "input" from the mindshare for humans.
Either way, my Nomad ("Ennugi") has spoken in full sentences plenty of times before. Consider letting him into your head sometime, to get rid of any obstructions otherwise in place.
Have you considered that Nomads aren't blue, squishy versions of humans, and are a completely differently species?

Different species or not, they have means to project their thoughts through words, and are able to fully understand English. It wouldn't take much for them to learn the basic structure of the language and to communicate in a much, much, much more efficient manner.
The "difference of thinking" doesn't really hold up either, as nomads always project really basic human scenarios; i.e. they do seem to be very much aware of how humans think and how to utilize that to their own advantage.
If they can do all that, I don't understand why they can't just speak plainly.
(Also its no secret that I would rather want nomads to shut up altogether and let the Wilde do the talking - Aliens talking crap in broken English and clichéed mental images (I mean really, do the Nomads have the worlds largest Holo-tainment Band collection tucked away at Dur-Shurrikun or what?) doesn't really do much for atmosphere).
Right so, the nom speak is your problem? Of course it's your problem, anything all the new indi noms is talk about is the nom speak which really doesn't concern them at all if they don't want to use it. But I guess people think their opinion now matters on how K'Hara players do their conversational roleplay (which, when I say your opinion doesn't matter -at all-, trust me, I mean it).
Nomad brain waves and structure operate on a higher level than humans. While human communication is limited to a few thousands of words which they use to communicate, there's an unlimited number of ways for a nomad to "say" something to another nomad or sentient being.
But the thing is only nomads operate on this level of communication in Sirius, humans just can't understand completely. Think of it as an adult speaking to an infant, the infant won't understand anything because the level on which an adult would speak is way too complex for the infant's mind to understand. But on the other hand the adult can understand all the words an infant can produce without a problem.
That is the reason of all the nom speak. The nomads -can- dumb it down if they want to but that would be something akin to making "cavemen talk" jokes to them. Plus Nomads see humans as lesser beings and simply want them eradicated, they don't bother to do it. Either way most human-"pure nomad" interactions shouldn't even consist of any telepathic talk in between and result in combat. Telepathic talk is just with people the Nomads want to use or don't want to kill outright due to a number of reasons (outcasts, for example).

Of course it concerns others than just your circle, because I like to think that interaction in this game is mutual, i.e. my character is not just an "extra", I interact with noms when they interact with me. Therefore, it does indeed concern me too. It's fine that you react poorly to critique and pride yourself in not taking anything in, that's your prerogative. I deliver my critique in a very curd and perhaps rude form, that's my mistake.
Also when the adult speaks to the infant he/she is fully aware of the assymetrical communication level, and they do their best - as adults - to communicate in a way the infant can understand, however basic that might be, exactly because the adult is so superior. I'm surprised nomads - if they indeed are so smart - can't understand that very simple and basic notion. I mean they can't be all that smart if they haven't figured out that the most efficient way to communicate with humans is to comply with their simplest basic linguistic structures. Perhaps the nomad that does smarten up and communicate in a direct way with humans will be the joke of the week in nomad society, but still...
