' Wrote:Fairly certain you're wrong and that guard system bases have been changed to use the regular IFF, not the guard IFF.
I spent a couple hours two nights ago doing missions on a new LPI character to get guard rep up, because the bases in the guard system wouldn't sell me stuff even though I was full green with LPI. Once I had LPI guard green, stuff worked.
Within the last couple months, I had to use /droprep repeatedly to change to the reputation I wanted on two characters. Bubba.Fett had a Liberty Navy IFF and I wanted a Gateway IFF which was usually in the third slot from the bottom, since I couldn't get it further down the list. The factions I got using /droprep: LSF, LPI, BPA, ALG, BowEx (that I almost kept out of frustration, since it was close to what I wanted), BMM and finally Gateway. I wasted $2,450,000 on seven droprep commands.
If you think that was bad, it got worse when I fixed my reputation on Bubba.Holler: IC to LN to BAF to BPA to BowEx to Gateway to Cryer to DSE to Republican Shipping to Universal Shipping to IMG. That's 10 droprep commands used while IMG was sitting in slot #2 the entire time. I literally had to droprep on every faction that was maxed green, as it kept randomly giving me everything but what was in the #2 slot. I wasted $3.5 million on that nonsense just to be able to switch to the faction I wanted. That would've taken me 10 weeks if your idea had been implemented. Of course, it would be nice if the droprep command actually worked the way it was supposed to and gave me the faction in the #2 slot, but that only happened once when Bubba.Fett got LSF.
Well then i think using that much it should be high. Because that is not working for a rep at all,and is abusing the command. You want a rep, you use /restart to area. Then you do bribes/missions for that faction only, and 10 minutes later your done. If your using /droprep 20 odd times your abusing it IMO. Keep it high, or infact make start at say 50k and go up another 50k per use. IE 50/100/150/200/250/300 and so on.

Yup same in Junker Guard system. If not full green with guard cannot buy top gear.

You missed what he said--read again.
He ALREADY had full green rep with the faction he wanted to have as his IFF. The problem was that he ALSO had full green rep with a whole lot of other people. Every time he used /droprep it went and picked another faction other than the one he wanted to make as his IFF, so he had to keep using it.
Not exactly sure how that's abusing droprep, given that that's exactly what droprep is intended to do.

If you /restart do only missions/bribes for what you want the rest will not be full green. If you suddenly decide to change your RM to LN then to bad. best start shooting RM to lower it.
I know why most need to drop rep like 40 times. They have a trader that gets green to every faction in game. They power trade to get like 900Mil. Then decide to get a cap,and OH NOs the rep i want is like 10 down. Just start a new char and transfer cash already.
When i started reading this topic i said sure maybe it is a little high. But after all the posts i now think it should be as high as /renameme It is obvious no one actually wants to play a char here to get the rep they want. All want to do it the easy way. I miss the good ole days BEFORE we had /droprep /renameme, and such. Back when people needed to play the game.
Warhalk,
Nobody wastes a good powertrader character with jumpholes explored and such. Especially if he is green to everyone. (I want to see it!)
I don't miss any period of time when people wasted ridiculous amounts of time on setting character up rather than playing the game (unluckily, they still sometimes have to). Don't know why.
Feel free to PM me regarding any grammar/spelling/other language mistakes I have made in my posts.

Get off your high horse! Just because you play Freelancer a certain way doesn't make me wrong for playing it a different way. For example, unlike other players, I don't have a powertrader character and I never will. I love playing traders, but having a trader that has no enemies would be extremely boring for me. I'm not in a rush to get a capital ship, so I'm no lolwut capwhore. I enjoy the journey and I'm not in a rush to get to the destination. The only capital ship I currently have is on my admin character (as [Admin]_Brujo) on one of the newest Discovery servers.
When I started playing 4.85 about four months ago after a three year absence from Discovery, I didn't use my characters to help each other out -- I played each independently. Eventually, I concluded that if I combined the funds of my characters, I could afford better ships faster, so I had my characters loan each other money, but only between characters that belonged to factions that were neutral or friendly to each other.
Of my five characters on the GC server, three ended up with Liberty Navy IFFs just from defending themselves against NPC pirates while they were starting out. One of those three was Bubba.Fett who as you can guess based on his name was originally intended to be a bounty hunter character (either having a BHG IFF/ID or BHG IFF with Mercenary ID). I was doing missions for the BHG when I gained the Liberty Navy IFF, so I bought a Freelancer ID and intended to play the character as a frustrated BHG-wannabe. Shortly after I switched from a Rhino to a Dromedary (when I still had the equipment from my Rhino installed), my ship was destroyed by a lolwut Kusari gunboat with a Kishiro IFF. I reported the offending player who attacked me without RP or warning, but he was never sanctioned. I eventually decided that revenge against Kishiro would become Bubba.Fett's primary motivation, but that he didn't want to become a pirate. I spent many weeks considering which faction I should join, eventually concluding that Gateway was the best choice, since they were hostile to Kishiro. While I could have lost my Liberty Navy IFF by attacking LN, I considered that immoral for a lawful Liberty citizen -- the sort of thing that a lolwut would do. I considered using the droprep command to be the only moral choice. Ironically, Bubba.Fett joined Gateway about a month before 4.86 came out and I was too busy with real life to play him and get revenge against Kishiro. Now the Kusari-Bretonia war is over and Gateway is no longer hostile to Kishiro, so I have to search for another faction to switch to, so I can get my revenge against Kishiro. I had a legitimate RP reason to switch my IFF from Liberty Navy to Gateway and I now have a legitimate RP reason to eventually leave Gateway, but I'm not sure which will be my next faction. Nowhere in the above is any reason for you to blame me for "abusing" the droprep command.
By the way, when I started using the droprep command on Bubba.Fett, eight factions were max green. Most of the time, Gateway was #3, but did drop to #4 after two of my dropreps and got to #2 during one, but I ended up having to do the maximum possible number of droprep commands (7) to get Gateway. Bubba.Holler had 11 factions max green and had to do the maximum possible number of droprep commands (10) to get IMG, even though IMG stayed in the #2 slot the entire time, as I explained earlier. How is that "abusing" the droprep command? Bubba.Holler's first use of the droprep command should have gained him an IMG IFF. It isn't my fault that the droprep command wasn't working correctly. I shouldn't have had to pay $3.5 million to get the IFF I wanted.

I only use the restart command on new characters. If I have a legitimate RP reason to switch factions (as explained above regarding Bubba.Fett), then I see no reason that I shouldn't be able to do that without destroying the history of the character by using the restart command.
As for doing things the easy way -- you are recommending the easy way. I do it the hard way -- when a character has a legitimate RP reason to leave a faction and join another, then I find a way to do it that the character would consider morally acceptable -- I consider it completely OORP for a lawful Liberty citizen to kill Liberty Navy to lose an LN IFF. Destroying depots is almost as morally reprehensible, since stealing from the authorities is almost as bad as killing the authorities. Even deliberately failing missions to lose an IFF is immoral, because that requires lying by accepting missions based on false pretenses. As far as I'm concerned, the droprep command is the only morally acceptable choice for a lawful character who wants to leave a lawful faction.
