The reason for novas is pretty simple...
Ever payed a repairbill for a cap getting hit by 100 Novas

Putting 1 Hellfire rocket launcher will make some pain to those VHFs, backed up with 3 EMP cannons. Now, about Nova/SNAC matter. If you have a bomber like Barghest, Challenger, Fafnir (with 2 bomber torpedo slots + CD slot), you should definitely go for dual novas. If you have something with 2 bomber torpedo slots, go for SNAC/TCD.

Now, why Novas instead of SNACs with heavy bombers: It's simple, Novas have enormous range and battleships won't be able to do anything about you if you spam Novas on it. On the other hand, with a SNAC, you have to come in rage (which is rather short, around 1.5k or so) and solarises and secondaries WILL cause you pain, since heavy bomber is hard to miss with those.

Stefz, you make some valid points...

That being said, I still think the threat of snubs is FAR GREATER than that of cap's solaris, and so I would ALWAYS opt for SNAC's, unless I have figher escorts.

Perhaps my views are skewed as an indy pirate who rarely has figher back-up.

If your part of a military organization, then I could certainly see the merits in using novas and the like, as you'll probably be rolling with a few fighters to back you up.

Personal experience I suppose.

They can, they're called flaks.

I'm pretty sure you can target the nova as well and send a cap missle at it.

Or they can avoid it, which i've seen done.

Pretty clear, go for the SNAC.

Well it`s actually a matter of how you want to use the bomber.
If you`re pirating on a 2 CD slot bomber SNAC and TCD sure is the best choice. If you`re using it to crush enemy battleships where you sure have some backup Nova+SNAC is my suggestion, since you will be able to harm Caps from long range, as long as someone else plays the CDer you will be fine with that.
On a heavy bomber one of each is my suggestion.

And seriously Nova damage everything like hell. You will laugh your arse off for every BS docking after 5 minutes of novaspam.

@Cam: I don't think someone will waste his energy in the battle just to destroy a Nova. If he focuses on your Novas, the others will bring it down, just the matter of time.

@Boot: Just check out the Hellfire rocket stats. It has around 5k hull damage and refire rate 6, one launcher is enough to fight off the fighters.

Hmmm....I'll admit I have little experience with hellfires.

Thanks for the advice....I'm always looking to learn how to be a better bomber pilot.

I'll have to check them out, and see how they jive I suppose....

' Wrote:Just use SNAC's....useful vs fighters too

Novas and the like simply move too slow to be useful against anything but caps/transports....and those are already easily defeated with a SNAC....

Not if you have a cd and something bigger to detonate the nova (nukes, sunslayers and etc.). It's really possible. And in actuallity quite effective if used by a person who grasps on how to put it in practise.

Would be interested in seeing it in action, because I doubt it's effectiveness.

PM me, where did it run, and we'll hook up on the server (assuming you still play on it), and we'll go at it.

I'd love to hook up with some more experienced bomber pilots to get better, as I really feel like that's my niche on this server....
