' Wrote:Actually, I'd have to disagree. The LSF are more akin to the FBI, a domestic policing agency with far more resources and power than regular police forces. SWAT teams would be a subdivision of the LPI, as they are with the police.
Not actually. More like CIA, to be exact. They have business even in other Houses, but secretly.
And secretly they are testing new weapons for the Navy, something FBI would never do for USA.
But, as i said, this is not the idea about SWAT or anything like it. We'r not supermen, robocops, SAS or anything like it.
I believe we all agreed to RP regular cops.
Later on, we might consider idea about Police special forces, but first let's make the Doughnut eaters, shall we.
@Ascendancy - 4 vengeances is something we would need to discuss.
As i said, it is desirable to have a uniform loadout.
That means, if you join, you can't pick your own weapons.
Sorry if you got it all wrong. ;)

i agree on that - a loadout that is the very same for each member of this group is vitally important. Such a faction especially in liberty would most probably turn out to be a mixture of "helper" and enforcers - but not primarily by sheer overpowering, but rather by talking.
hmm - how can i describe it best how i think such a faction affects other players.... shooting for such a faction is rather to make a point, to strengthen your arguments, than to kill. ( considering you d have the right to shoot anyway ) - so if the LPI finds a heavy transport full with cardamine, they would make this transport aware of being a wrongdoer - and possibly try to make it drop its goods - if not voluntarily, then by "poking" its shields.
if that won t impress the transport - then i d say, the police calls LSF / Navy ( instead of non stop shooting a 100k shield for 10 minutes to dent it )
with that said, weapons are really rather secondary - they should be used to "warn" people rather than kill. ( with that in mind, i wouldn t even care if the loadout of police was "only" shield busters [ as an equivalent to non lethel weapons ] - but since there are no liberty only shield busters out ( i am a bit against civilian weapons in that case ) vengeance will do the job just fine.
important is a weapon that is not too widely used - and that has a very definity sound/look.
ps.: i m rather passiv - not going to lead anything - but gladly taking orders:)
Jinx, agreed on all.
I would ditch shieldbusters as well, but as i said, not all will agree on that one.
So, i suggested a compromise.
Anyway, someone else suggest someone else then, please.
We need someone who's a bit longer in this community.
So, who else is interested?
C'mon guys, we need a chief!!!

there is another option - when its about leadership. not really what we had in mind maybe. - but if there isn t really enough room for interpretation and duty within liberty with the other 2 existing factions around ( navy / lsf ) its also possible to join LSF - as a subsection. roleplaywise that would make the LPI dependent from the LSF - but so what.... we are not in FL anymore, but long long in the future allready.
the advantage is - it comes with an experienced leadership, while still providing a subsection such as LPI with enough freedom - so we d only need some sort of "squad leader" or so ( ok, its basicly the same thing as getting a real groupleader - but there is some substitute leader around in case we just don t have the groupleader online )
its a unique model after all..... liberty would be the first faction with ALL the law enforcement factions covered by players.......
Hm, nice suggestion, but i would rather go with the SA.
Why?
Because, i can't see Police as a subdivision of LSF, because, they have nothing in common.
LSF is all about acquiring info about other Houses, developing new weapons, ships, etc.
They are not really law-keepers.
SA on the other hand RP as a Navy.
I think we would fit better with them.
Now, all we need is to see what Turkish thinks about this;)
It could be like this.
Chief of that subdivision would be directly responsible to the SA leader (leader and his 2nd in command, not the others).
All officers are directly responsible to the Chief, not SA. SA can't order them around, but they can go trough Chief though.
If they are not satisfied with how Chief is doing his job, they are able to choose another one, that will fit them.
SA shouldn't order all officers, mainly because there needs to be a line.
If they were able to do it, then LPI would not be a subdivision, it would be a part of SA.
At least the way i see it.
We need other opinions on this though. Bus? Etaphreven?

Personally with regards to load out I would go with 2 Debs class 8 and 2 class 9 Vengance guns mounted on a Libertator. All 750m/s guns that can be fired together for an initial punch then switched to Groups for continuous fire. The hull guns wont be lethal by any means. The Wasp CD is about as useful as a choclate fireplace so I would say use a Mosquito.
I don't really like it that much. When you get down to it, the SA RPs as the Navy. While that was the point you were making, to me it goes in the opposite direction. I have never seen the Navy and police work together. Never. The Navy is purely there for foreign dealings (war, taking care of the big pirates, patrolling the independent systems) while the police are there for keeping the peace, taking down the small time criminals (light fighters in NY, Cali, Texas, Colorado) and scanning for contraband.
Though, if it came down to it, better than the LSF. It would be a better fit to go with the SA.
That being said... weaponry. I don't know about the Liberator (I'll check the gun points on it later) but here are some possibles for a Patriot. I have 3 loadouts in mind... we should pick one pretty soon and stick with it.
Loadout 1: Shield Busters allowed
2x Adv. Stunpulse
2x Justice III / Lavable III
1x Hornet CD
1x Razor mine (something in the Seeker family, please)
1x Adv. CM
Sorry Jinx, but I have to disagree with you on the Wasp... I absolutely hate it. I think the Hornet would be better. After all, if what you said is true, then the CD is our biggest weapon. Against smugglers, all we can do is stop them and wait for the big guns to arrive.
This would mainly be an anti-danger/bloodhound (if we could get a Rogue faction to play LF with us...) setup. You would group the shieldbusters on Group 1 and take the shields out with them. It would only take a couple of hits, in my experience. Then, the Justice/Vengeance would take down the hull.
Loadout 2: We're a big fan of high refire rate
4x Justice III
1x Hornet CD
1x Razor mine
1x Adv. CM
This one is your basic Justice setup.
Loadout 3: We're a big fan of low refire rates
4x Lavable III
1x Hornet CD
1x Razor mine
1x Adv. CM
Basic Lavable setup.
Now, I firmly believe that any officer can trade out one gun for a missile launcher. Maybe the person (if we decide on setups 2 or 3) wants a shield buster, and decides to swap a gun for an eraser missile.
Now, partners were mentioned, as well as restricting people to certain assigned systems. I like both the aforementioned ideas. Police always have partners. Watch Law and Order, and all those other shows that I'm too tired to name right now. Always. And they always have jurisdiction. Can we, in Colorado, call in backup from a unit in California? We should be able to, yes. Should they be able to take a shortcut through Ontario? Yes, they should. But only in that circumstance (and vice versa).
Gah, was gonna say something else, but can't remember for the life of me... I'll stop now.
Ok folks, some of you got this whole idea all wrong...this faction here does not represent the leadership of the LPI...to make that even more clear, the faction leader is not the Chief of Police,he's just a friggin squad leader(read,it's not even meant to be official). And like Chopper said,we're nothing but a bunch of doughnut eaters that hate their job. That's why I have to disagree with some of the posts about the "SWAT thingy".We won't have a SWAT subdivision, because we're just a squadron,so,we're either THE SWAT division(which we aren't),or the Police squadron that does the boring stuff.
For names I think LPI-Name.Surname sounds good.
Still haven't decided on weaponry...
I think the Vengeance is an anti-positron weapon,as far as I recall, which wouldn't exactly help us against the Sirius-wide used graviton shields...But that's just my opinion on the weaps,'cause most likely we're gonna use them...It's not about pwnz0r1ng,it's about RPing.
My suggested Liberator loadout is:
-Veangeance MK IV
-Veangeance MK IV
-Adv.Debililator
-Magmahammer MK -insert the number I can't recall here-
-Razor minelayer
-Hornet CD
-Adv CM
-The shield would remain the standard one,the one you get when you buy the ship.
-Armor upgrade MK II
-Cargo scanner.
This is the MAX loadout I'd use. That means, this is my opinion of the strongest loadout, but which is still too strong in my opinion, but I'm sure you guys don't wanna go any lower,so...
Ok,umm,sorry guys if I missed it,but I want some suggestions on a Patriot loadout,please?:)

=Inspector Jason MacMillan to incoming transport. Please stand by for a cargo scan.=
*No response*
=Great...another idiot trying to smuggle something,I bet.Kay,Baxter, engage cruise disruptors and stop that moron before my coffee gets ice cold!=
=Oh,what have we got here, cardamine?Hasn't your momma taught you that contraband is a bad thing?Right, now drop it or the next coffee is on your check.=
*No response*
=Beautiful. This guy has just managed to ruin my whole coffee break.Kay,teach him what we do in cases like this and bring his shields down.If he won't drop the stuff,we'll take it ourselves! And what's the quickest way to get to it?Right through his hull!=
=His shields are down, inspector.Should I go get you another coffee?Manhattan's not that far away.=
=That'd be really nice, thank you....But no you dumb ass,we're in the middle of an operation.=
=Umm...yes...sir...*This job is...godawful.Especially this so called "Inspector MacMillan"...heh,inspector?him?Heck,even I'd be a better inspector.*=
=Erm,sir?=
=Yes Baxter?=
=There's something I wanna tell you...=
=Later,okay?I'm eating doughnuts now.=
=But sir..=
=No buts!Let me eat.Okay?=
=SIR!IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!=
=Alright,alright!Spit it out.=
=Hostile ships inbound.=
=HOLY S***!WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME EARLIER?!...Ah never mind,you idiot...=
=And there would be one more thing...=
=Yeah?=
=Remember the transport we've just scanned?The one carrying contraband?=
=Umm...yeah,I guess I do.=
=Well,it's GONE!=
=What do you mean it's gone?!It was just here a few...oh what the heck?!Where's the transport?!Damn...Ok folks,umm,right,where was I?Ah yes,engage the bastards.=
=Sir?You might want to reconsider that...=
=And why's that Baxter?=
=Because they're flying gunboats and we're in our outdated Patriots, sir?=
=Oh,right.Damn.Inspector MacMillan to Navy HQ,requesting immediate reinforcements to...grid location D546-AA3.Do you copy?Multiple hostile gunboats inbound.=
=Yes inspector,we heard you.Sending in a bomber wing.ETA 3 minutes.=
=Roger that,hurry up please...*so I can continue my freaking coffee break.*=
=Guys, you might wanna take cover till the Navies arrive...Good oportunity to finish drinking your coffee, eating doughnuts,or whatever the hell else you were doing right before we saw that transport.=
And that's a 5 min RP...Sort of got carried away...To NOT be continued :$
PS:If I missed anything(I'm pretty sure I did)please remind me...(not talking about my RP thingy here, but about this thread)
Lol, what a conversation. It's going to be a real pleasure working with you, Etaphreven:D. Actually I wouldn't mind if you'd be the squad leader, it was mostly your idea anyway.
I agree about the swat / gunboat / whateverelse thing with Etaphreven, I would really prefer just being a bunch of light fighter patrol guys than representing any sort of official LPI leadership flying in their HQ cruisers.
The way I see it, Lavablade/Magma Hammer are more of military weapons and Justice/Vengeance are the police weapons, so I would rather stick with the latter ones. Yes, they are laser weapons and are ineffective against graviton shields, but graviton shields should mainly be used by lawful Liberty ships anyway... not my fault that pirates don't like to roleplay their equipment:P.
As for stunpulse and debilitator, if you don't like them then we don't have to use them.
Also regarding the NPC Liberator loadout up there ^^ it probably is overpowered but I would rather fly in the Patriot anyway. Although I don't quite agree with the idea that we should either all fly the Patriot or all fly the Liberator - I think that we should be able to choose, I'd prefer to be a lowly officer in a Patriot and maybe Etaphraven would rather be a big boss inspector in a Liberator and we can still fly together, only he'd be the leader.
