' Wrote:In DHC I meet a lot of "indies", without any basic knowledge about Daumann's RP, goals or who our enemies are. " hi. i'm not interested, i want only ore"
Why anybody should hire miner or join mining faction, if he can make indie and self-mine? By interaction he could learn how to RP employee of said faction, play with others, play multiplayer game.
Wouldn't worry about those too much. They fall into 2 categories: Powerminers who want enough credits for whatever plan they've hatched. These people are basically doing the same thing as repping up - they're readying the ship they want to play. These are basically piratebait, can't do much with them except use them as exactly that: Piratebait.
The second category is the new player to the server, who just hasn't figured out Disco is a RP environment. These guys you can probably team up with - heck, lure em with a bit of credit. "Hey, our company has set a target incentive. If you help out and fill my big bad transport, we'll give you XX million credits as part of that incentive. There's also a minor questionnaire involved, just to check if our employees are up to date with Daumann policies and background - passing that gets you an additional X million as part of the incentive. Interested?"
This allows you to engage them in roleplay, while making credits yourself - and at the same time train a newbie. We've done that (or tried to, not all attempts were succesful) in IMG from time to time. If the indy showed promise, we usually invite them into the fold. 's probably why the IMG grew to one of the biggest factions on the server - although few folk stick around for the long run. Curse of the mining faction I suppose, once the credits are made, a battleship is more appealing to some;)
Think of these indies as... opportunity. (I'm sure you have the lobes for it;))

I already do that, sometimes you can notice DHC-PR.Centre Camara in Rheinland.
But that's not problem, problem is in game mechanic promoting selfmining, lack of interaction. You know, people think "why I have to pay miner, if I can mine it alone?"
To be honest, I'm also a bit frustrated of people considering trading/mining NPC factions as addition to game, place where they can earn money for their CAU 8 BS, nothing more. Lack of interaction, any interest in RP, just "I wanna cash and gtfo". At least it's RP server, and every action should has RP basis. Even making cash.
I used to act that way Ursus, but after few thoughts I do it no longer. First, why someone has to has ore here and now, no matter of circumstances. It's that same case as 5ker/BWT discussion. BWT has CM, but 5ker more cargo space. People whine they can't fly 5k transport with CM and dock in house space, opponents pointed out that would lead to powertraders' assault. They have right about it.
Others say "kill me pirate because it's cheaper" is bad RP. Undoubtedly. How then, on server with RP in name, interaction between miner and customer is supported, if selfmining is legal? Kill me 'cause it's cheaper is bad RP, but F1, select other account, tractor ore is good?
Forbidding F1 self-mining wouldn't be a solution to the above mentioned 'problems'. The lone wolves that you so desperately want to interact with, would just go somewhere else to do what they want, in peace. Being intrusive and forcing yourself unto others help little.
When someone joins the GMG|, I would rather have the member see it as a rewarding experience with perks while playing with others, than punishing the loners that do not want to join.
Sure, a lone indy miner might not care for its factions RP while mining and F1 switching. Is that bad RP? It's not creating any problems for me or my faction while we do our business, and I'm too busy caring about my own faction than caring about someone else's bad RP. When the indy realize that he'd be making more credits while simultaneously interacting and playing with other members, he'll come around and apply. Hopefully he have learnt more about the mining faction by then, otherwise, that's a requirement that I'll ask of him.
A while ago I was using an Arrastra and I was mining 112 or so niobium in tau 23 and hauling it to texas. took forever. didn't make much money at it. was fun though. that's how indy mining should took place.
If someone wants more money at mining they should play as part of a multi-ship-role convoy with transport ships and join a faction.
The system of f1-solo-mining as convoluted and risky as you describe seems a perfectly acceptable alternative balance-wise for someone who just doesn't want to join a faction, and just isn't satisfied with hauling ore in their miner themselves. I don't think something as complex as that needs to be banned.
so I recently started exploring Coronado. I must say you're all doing a wonderful job.
so I recently started exploring Koeln. I must say you're all doing an amazing job.
some time ago I explored Rousillon. Impressive. Particularly the music on the planet that was a nice surprise.
so I recently started exploring Omega-55. LOL... NOMADS. LOTS AND LOTS OF NOMADS. SHOOTING THINGS. I GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE. (and I was thinking, jeez I can't remember what that one was from the news. I hope I don't run into a nomad system)
recently started exploring Omega-41. what did you guys do to the star? that new effect there, that's impressive.
' Wrote:5.9 Disconnecting from the server in a PvP fight to escape, as well as in any other situation that involves player interaction, is not allowed. If you lose server connection during a player interaction, you should get back in game quickly to continue the interaction, with the other player's permission. If that is not possible, then post on the forums and PM the players involved.
Unlawful Bandit, neither of those 'problems' are an issue for me. It's not preventing me from (role)playing with(out) my faction, not even the tiniest bit.
Mean thing to do would be to sit with a transport nearby and beat them to the "salvage". Perfect Junker roleplay if you ask me. :smile2:

At the end of the day if you want your trade faction to maintain activity you need some kind of PvP incentive because making money is always more efficient as an indie. That's all there is to it.
