In my opinion Battleships should come with hyper drive module mounted. Make them 1 billion or more. And deactivate their capacity to use cruise speed.
Another thing will be to let them dock ONLY on shipyards which will make it more realistic. and to not let them to use tradelanes.
Cruisers;
Cruisers and Battlecruisers could use cruise engine and the thruster, but using tradelanes it's just, unrealistic. Nothing bigger than Gunboats or transport ships should do it. That's why are called "tardelanes", correct?
If this changes will be done, then we will have a better roleplay and fights. In this case you will not see a single battleship or cruiser flying alone in space, because they will need to be protected. Nowdays we see more capital ships than snubs. I'm sure this changes will balance the mod.
This is just my opinion.
The second part of your post is a thought that has popped into my mind before. I think capital ships, as they are, are much too mobile.
I like the idea of having battleships that are just as slow as a barge (or slower). Moving a battleship from central house space to the war front should be a project, not a thing of 5 minutes. This would result in much more "stationed" capital ships and much more organization and strategy around deployment of a capital ship. As they are now, there's barely a difference between moving a light fighter to a location and moving a battleship there.
If they were as slow as this, escape wouldn't be easy, therefore effort would be required to guard them properly. It would also allow us to buff battleships' strength and defense capabilities, turning them into the frightening space object they should be, without having a single overpowered shipclass for every individual player.
Ah, yes, but you forget that people are here to have fun, not for spend gigantic amounts of time moving ships there and there. The current system is fairly better.

will you make caps 10x stronger? because that's the only way I'm interested in going 10x slower
I like the idea of oversized ships that are too large for the tradelane. I think barge should get full thruster speed back but too large for tradelane. I think there should be a 10k cargo line that has cruise and too large for tradelane. Wouldn't mind some super-carriers being in that same league too, since a carrier is supposed to be a portable station and not a battleship. Current line of cruisers and battleships however, cannot take ships beating on them and running off, they just dont have the hull for it. You'd have to massively increase the hull to give them any survivability at all.

I agree.

No, I didn't. If a battleship is stronger but slower, you have time for RP, not only /l1 and shoot everything you see. I want to see how many players in battleships have a good RP. I don't say that there aren't some good roleplayers which have a good RP in capital ships, but 90% of them have capital ships only to shoot at light fighters...
Something that would be a very nice addition: Add a feature that allows you to mark a target as "Hostile" on your scanner in the cases that the enemy has no IFF or is for some reason "Green" to you at first appearance.
Perhaps like the system that is already implemented with stationary bases? Once you fire a CD at them they swap from "White" or "Green" to a temporary "Red/Hostile."
This would be very beneficial in group fights, especially ones involving Freelancer IFF or non-IFF'd enemies. Swapping from target to target can become difficult when your enemies are flying around marked white and green.
