Funnily enough, I don't put much stock in their opinions.

It is the devs mod, they can do what the damn well please with it. If you don't like it, leave.
If people leave because of their changes, the devs have to choices; wake up or let the mod die.
Neither would be a terrible idea.

Whether or not it's their mod, they have a community, and a community they risk alienating if they continue as they do.

They can afford to lose a few bad apples from their crop.

I'm not one to say 'good work disco dev team you did great', but on average Discovery has been getting better since 4.85 (minus the useless additions made by our previous mod overlord that had already been done).

The work Cannon has done is great, from a Freelancer standpoint, and people like Aet have cleaned up the place a lot.

Anyone complaining about development in general as the children are doing today obviously has nothing better to do, or are so nitpicky that the devteam can afford to ignore their opinion; as they have more than likely done for years now.

"From a Freelancer standpoint" isn't from a quality standpoint - though yes, Cannon is doing brilliantly.

But there's still a lot left to be desired, because when something completely valid (and arguably important) comes along, they put on their 'we're the devs and you're stupid' hats. Then there's also the Mysterious Case of the Missing Models that certain factions seem to have to deal with, and then are promptly lied to about.

Obviously I must reiterate. It is not a mod built by the community. If the community does not want to play what the devs give them, then it's up to the devs to fix that. However, the community is still playing what they've been giving, so a few randoms (which have in this case shown their immaturity to the community multiple times) complaining is hardly 'oh no the community hates what we've done'.

If I'm not entirely mistaken, the mod is run by a completely different person now, making the development of 4.85 a moot point.

Player bases are an amazing addition to Freelancer, though only the modding community can really fathom just how much.

Sure, there will always be a lot to be desired, because people will always have differing opinions. The mod, or at least the server, as a whole is getting much better. This is the most important thing for longevity.

As for disappearing models, it's very likely BS. People don't like to admit fault, and while that doesn't exclude the devteam, they certainly don't gain anything by pretending to have lost or never received a model.

EDIT: And anyway, if Jaec dislikes this community so much, and only plays Disco to play with his friends here, why would anyone take any stock in his opinion about mod development? That's going completely against the idea of the community making suggestions; like a muslim trying to change the christian bible (or vice versa, and I make this example to prove a point, not because I like it).

from what i have gathered from the first couple of pages, is that you folks have been crying about not being able to exploit the mod to farm credits with the junp drive system. If you have so many gripes about this, go cheat on a server that doesnt use FLhook or something.

The amount of mods that are started because 'disco devs suck' is quite silly. :lol:
None of them ever get anywhere.
(Saying as both a member of the modding community and as someone who foolishly did the same thing a year or two ago)
But yes, they should. It would at least open their eyes to the fact that developing a mod is not easy, even when you don't have people breathing down your back about how you're somehow ruining their fun.
