Most people only use the small/medium transports as a stepping stone, for them to have staying power it needs to have a niche that would make players want to stick with it.
For instance the Firefly is popular not just because it's an import but because its maneuverable and deadly enough to defend itself admirably against pirate snubs.
If you can come up with a niche they would fill then go for it!
The freighter one might with some luck be a replacement for X-shuttle. 1,6k might follow steps of .84 conference or current salvager (while being somewhere less effective for obvious reasons). 3,6k would follow battletransport steps, simmilar armor and firepower but less cargospace (again, for obvious reasons).
I had suggested using some of the old models as new ships for non-faction pilots. Like some of the old transports can be turned into gunships, old fighters to small freighters, and etc. Course, you would need to change the models, depending on what they are to be. The old Persephone model from 2010, if made smaller, remove the engines thats high up and the one down-low, make more blockish, like that of 2142 for the EU, and remove what would resemble Zoner based design(The curves mostly), and boom, new transport or gunship.
We should look into the old models and see what can be changed so they dont look exactly the same, but still having its similarities. And the Sabre isnt the prettiest ship, to me it looks like a Kingfisher fighter, just ugly.
You do know Im talking about editing the model where it doesnt look like the same. Could be smaller, like a size of the medium transports. Not talking about giving everyone a chance at a Capital, that would be nuts. And I mean using old models, all of the old models, that arent ported in, and edit them. Its not just the one I mentioned, im talking about all.
