x failed.
x tried and died.
x fell victim to the cancer of discovery
x suffered - but not for long.
x needs a new ship
x experienced terminal laser poisoning
a mine killed x
x bounced off y
x mined y
x has an expensive repair bill
x knows the difference between the quick and the dead
If the messages are annoying you then just '/set diemsg system' I think it is. You'll only see deaths that happenin the same system as you and you can still get screenshots of kills messages for bounty claims etc
Why can't we have sober, irp messages without any lulz and weird humor?
> was "sproinked"? => What is that? Neologism?

Sorry, I do not understand why we cannot have:
> X's ship was destroyed by Y (mine)
> X's ship exploded
Any other sober, irp message works that
... doesn't focus on "death" (people do not die in FL. Do not encourage an aspect that is in contradiction to the server reality. They respawn, so they are not dead. You meet them again)
... doesn't try to be funny/lulzly/pvp-ish

Gramatically, "their" can be used if you do not want to differentiate between "He/she". It is correct.

True but the real problem is that people do metagame with blue msgs made in 30 systems away.
Hence if you remove them you are in disadvantage allowing others to have one more metagaming tool.
In general it is good for the RP environment to keep the bluemsgs in one system only and it does not matter much what is written on the msg.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)

Unfortunately true. And unfortunately not much can be done about meta-gaming. Nearly everyone does it at some point or another, whether they admit to it or not. I have found the way to deal with it in terms of RP is just to assume that my characters are extremely bloody unlucky whenever a pirate miraculously appears on my previous deserted route. Well that or just assume said pirate possesses far superior clairvoyant capability than myself
The "%victim was sproinked to death" line came up one single time because a certain someone decided it would be funny to change it after I had finished setting them back to how they were before the server maintenance.
The current messages are:
DeathMsgTextPlayerKill=Death: %victim was put out of action by %killer (%type)
DeathMsgTextSelfKill=Death: %victim has suffered a self administered loadout error (%type)
DeathMsgTextNPC=Death: %victim did their best.
DeathMsgTextSuicide=Death: %victim has suffered a self inflicted catastrophic decompression.
DeathMsgTextAdminKill=Death: %victim has suffered a terrible fate.
The death messages that have 'no RP aspect' are for deaths that -have- no RP aspect. Additionally, the "%victim did their best" death message was previously just "%victim died" so according to your analysis the new one is actually an improvement. This really isn't something that needs to be taken super seriously because it's a game and most of us are just here to have fun. You should try smiling, you'll feel better about things (honest).
