Gun stays off the market.
Random code dealer finds a codename. "I'll sell this."
Gun goes on to the market.
Prices will rise because there are less guns on the market.
Actually....
Random guy who's been wanting to find a codename to use. "Oh look, finally found the gun I was after."
Guy gets what he wanted, without having to go buy it from a dealer. Decreases demand of the codename.
Random code dealer finds a codename. "Another code to sell, now I just gotta find someone who wants it, that isn't going to just camp this wreck."
Dealer finds a gun he has problems selling because of other people just looting the wreck. Increases the supply of the codename.
Supply is higher than demand, which means the prices go down. Basic economic law of supply and demand.
With all the server crashes these days, it's easy to get the guns you want.
Never been into code-hunting but read aerelm's guide (thx for that) and went to pick up guns for 3 ships one time I wasn't patient enough to wait for code dealers to come online. And it was dead easy, in 2 days I got top-notch load outs for 3 VHF's. Maybe I was lucky, maybe server crashes helped me, but no one was camping the wrecks and it was dead-easy to get the guns.
I wonder if you could spawn npcs with no shield that would just sit there? or you could have just regular ones with the loads you want. then you could have a few zones that had a low chance to spawn some npcs with the loads you want. you could use wrecks for the landmarks for these zones.
and in the infcoards go
"this fighter belonged sunny d doggy rimshot joe summers who was known for his sketchy combat. he was last seen in the [enter area you are in]. it was reported that there were some hacker ships testing new weapons in that vicinity and it was around the time that the ship was reported missing" bla bla bla. if you're lucky the npcs will spawn and you fight them for the weaponry.
so I recently started exploring Coronado. I must say you're all doing a wonderful job.
so I recently started exploring Koeln. I must say you're all doing an amazing job.
some time ago I explored Rousillon. Impressive. Particularly the music on the planet that was a nice surprise.
so I recently started exploring Omega-55. LOL... NOMADS. LOTS AND LOTS OF NOMADS. SHOOTING THINGS. I GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE. (and I was thinking, jeez I can't remember what that one was from the news. I hope I don't run into a nomad system)
recently started exploring Omega-41. what did you guys do to the star? that new effect there, that's impressive.
There's a whole lot of unfounded speculation on what would happen to codename prices in the event that this change were implemented. None of it is particularly compelling. Here are a few considerations:
1. Would introducing location variance really reduce the codename flux into the market? Can we honestly say that making the wrecks spawn within a 3x3 sector (For example) box instead of a fixed location will prevent their being discovered before the next server reset?*
2. Given the systems one typically finds wrecks in, can we expect that non-code hunters will stumble across these guns on a regular basis? I can't speak for other players, but I've never had a legitimate (in-RP) reason to fly through Oita.
3. Even in the event that codename prices did go up due to this modification, the problem could by solved by upgrading Flashpoints to draw prospective Freelancer IFF'd players away from codenames and reduce demand.
* The only situation I could forsee this happening in is if the box were so large that it simply wasn't worth the time to find the codenames; this would definitely produce a price spike.

The dealer can't get the guns easily, so there are less on the market, decreasing supply.
Most people use 4 of the same codename, so they can't just stumble upon the code with the same ship. Much simpler to buy from a dealer.
Remove all codes from wrecks, and make a sequence what'll spanw at restart a few random NPC ships to a random factions with a random code guns. That will make things interesting. You maybe get lucky and find a Phoenix Lazulite (your dream gun) on a Starflea but who know...maybe the next gun is on a Jelly BS....and just to not let the wrecks float around pointless, give them some expensive cargo.
