Balancing the Geb (Yes, that sort of thread again)

Order's history blows, first toledo, now nerefed, alaska is gone, core is active.
The only faction dedicated to defeat the nomads and protect humanity has been screwed over and over again, and its battleship is as strong as my rogue cruiser.
Regarding the Geb, Buff it ASAP.

First of all, this is a Geb thread, not an Osiris thread.By the way I'll say something too.

The Order isn't the only faction dedicated to defeat the nomads.Check Zoners.They are all around us helping Order financially, supplying its bases , development and research.
And you're saying Osiris is strong as your Rogue Cruiser ? Well, you're DAMN WRONG.

Osiris might have 1 Heavy Turret Slot, but it is very small and has some nice turning rate ( Strafing Rate too ).I used to scream all over Omicron Zeta how Osiris is weak and how I always get defeated in Conn, but its all about training.

Osiris is very powerfull ship compared to its size, and if you don't know how to fly it, go to Conn, find your technique ( TS or Strafe ) and start pewing.

Anyway, this is NOT a Osiris thread, right ? Lets head to the Geb status.

Geb is a very weak ship and has very weak guns compared to its size.Geb used to be better in 4.85 ( Missiles and LM ) but its nerfed just like the Osiris.Although, Osiris is already fitting the role of a Battleship, it wouldn't be bad for Order to have another Battleship , would it ?

Also, Geb its good looking , but not the way it used to be.Check this video to see how Geb used to look.

I'd like to see the Geb stronger , although everyone says Geb has Battleship shield bla bla bla missiles and such.It is still weak no matter the 18 guns it is too weak compared to its size, as I mentioned.

Bud, I have osiris for 3 years, one of my most active chars in disco.
This battleship is amazing as you said, but in the current status of the omicrons, it is weak and defenseless compared to other enemy vessels, this is not a conn 1v1 pvp with 2.3km range strikes
And to add up : Geb inrp is a good ship to use but when it comes to combat it is really.. fat? weak?
some changes need to be made.

an explanation is that:

the geb was an experiment - a project. - and it may have failed - one must admit failure in that case

when i made it - it was after some chats with ppl that felt like such a ship being a good RP platform. - at the time... the term "carrier" was merely for roleplay purposes - and the only thing that determined carriers were more prominent / visible launchbays.

the geb was meant to be an osiris - stripped of the bulky cloaking mechanism and most of the ships internal structure - hence the battleship size.

it was given a revolutionary hangar design that set it apart from other carriers ( all of them battleship sized - at that time )

the idea was that the ship was mostly a customized osiris - with energy re-routed all across the ship to new systems - the efficiency was "only" that of a battlecruiser - and the weaponry was reduced to cruiser class size - because it still had a lot of energy ( more than any cruiser by default ) - it was given a lot more weapons than the average cruiser ( which has an average of 12 turrets - or had at that time )




thats the lore - the idea was to make a large ship with lousy defenses - and a weaponry that was ... in one word "odd". - a mostly unpredictable ship. - born out of need. - the order has no real forward bases - and they cannot really run around in large battlegroups - so the carrier was meant to be a mobile headquarter for its surgical strike craft. ( remember - snubs don t really fly more than a system )



in terms of game mechanics - it failed. - even early after introduction - the order asked for BB shields - and the ship was nearly impossible to balance - it was either too strong or too weak.



at that point - i d love to scrap the design - and in order lore - consider it "failed" - the order can look back at 2 very successful designs though - the recon cruiser that fulfilled its role admirably - and the osiris that suited them perfectly.

instead of the carrier - we might aswell make their fighters to be "long range" ( since players don t take the fuel limitations of snubs into account anyway )




in terms of model - the current model cannot really do with a reduction in size - and i am not sure if its wise to make it a full blown battleship.

the most reasonable way would really be to either remodel it to something that is a true cruiser or a true battleship .... or let it go. in a way - the order does not need it - if they are really in such a desperate need of a carrier - they can ask zoners for an aquillon after all.

No it is not. I've been flying a mako for months and it's shape is the best. The only battleships that could be better due to other stats are the dunkirk and the LD.

Yes, Osiris is nerfed, but still its a decent ship in combat and good ship iRP.
You said: " but in the current status of the omicrons, it is weak and defenseless compared to other enemy vessels ". Whitch other vessels ? The only thing Osiris has to fight with is the Marduk and Mako, and sometimes the Liberty Dreadnought who is often used by BHG|Core.

Bring me swarm of Order Sekhmets and I'll show you how to defeat other Battleships.Since the Order hasn't got any strong Capital vessels, they can still rely on numbers and Bombers to take down their opponent.

And also, as I already said, Geb is very weak compared to its size, bigger than Osiris just like Mercarryn said.It can still be used for roleplaying purposes.
I'd like to see an increased cargo hold for use of Jump Drives and Cloaking Devices.

The only thing Geb needs to be done with is: Increase cargo hold and ship weaponry ( Use of Battleship turrets ) , decrease its size, or just simply delete it.

Alright, I remember in some old thread, I suggested giving capital ships "special" weaponry similar to their forward guns. Usually forward guns remain the same, forward and big. But there have been deviations such as the Asco's torpedo. Then there is the proposal of mine to have unique guns like broadside mounted plasma array for the Rheinland battleships, basically weapons that only fit on that particular BS.

So here, perhaps we can apply this "special" weaponry idea. The Geb has 3 specialized docking bays for fighters mounted on a rotating rack. Why not remove this and add in real torpedos instead? Have a Geb be transformed into a siege cruiser of sorts with 3 special torpedos, be it EMP or hullbusting.

That'll not only solve the problem (mileage may vary) but also gives a sense of uniqueness to the Geb.
