If the Zoners have their priorities THAT messed up, then they wouldn't even be alive and exist.
Either you're mistaken, or Zoners shouldn't even be in the game, because they would've all died out long ago from starvation/dehydration.
This actually reminds me of Corsairs.
On an other note, I just wonder since when the Zoner ID allows roleplaying a dictatorship.
Hey here's an idea. Everyone is fed up about this war, so in a bid to end it SolaR or Phoenix or whoever the dominant Zoner group is make a draft for a O74 treaty with the Corsairs and Order (both groups get their fingerprint on the treaty, like guaranteed free passage and similar minor rights), lolgate swarm ensues and Corsairs and Order secure the system for SolaR/Phoenix/whomever who will then get ownership of O74.
It is ridiculous that there's a system this close to Gamma without having any form of ownership/leadership - no one to address when things go sour and Zoners war and destabilize the entire region. It's unacceptable both in and out of roleplay. And doing the above would add some nice lore to Zoners, that some vie for power and pay the price - no more Mary Sue let's all be friends etc. etc. Other Zoner groups like TAZ would of course have to agree on the ownership, but at this point I think everybody is more or less fed up and will agree to most terms to have peace and quiet.
Once ZA is flushed, Order, Corsairs and Zoner owners of O74 could build a jumphole guarding base and share the password and make some sort of "peace, harmony and unity" event out of it, and use it for future diplomatic talks between the 3 groups, sort of like that Cylon/Human base in the beginning of BSG. We'd have an actual roleplayed base too.
It would round things up nicely, O74 would get under control, and Order, Corsairs as well as the new owner will all gain from it. Some RP could spin out of it; and we would have the first and only Zoner group that paid the price for having power. Win, win, win. For once it wouldn't boil down to stupid arguments regarding who has the "moral rights", who is the most "Zoner" and who is the most "RP" like these forums as well as in-game talks are flooded with these days, clotting up the conflict and making it more of an oorp than inrp venture - it would be concrete and realistic, add some much needed ambiguity to Zoners, who could go "Get out ZA buddies, SolaR/Phoenix/etc. owns this place now!" and have that backed up by groups that are allowed to fry Zoners per their ID.
I wish such would have happened ages ago, but it seems some think those who have more PoBs up and running have more authority and give no crap about RP. Most of them are among the ZA of course, but not only them. As long as such mentality exists and people will discard RP on an RP server, such people will not really contribute to the general well-being of the community, causing commotion like the current one in O74.
No that's not actually right, the way I see it at least:
1. Be friends with everyone in the usual creepy Zoner fashion while you build your base and RP your group.
2. Get bored with your base and all the work put into it and set it to kill stuff (this fad seems to be an ongoing trend with official factions as well, mind you).
3. Order getting pissy for good reason in-rp, all official factions in the region jump aboard in support of another official faction for dubious reasons - the situation quickly escalates and get severely prolonged when all the factions + assorted trolls and noobs combined realize they can't bring down those bases as easily as they had thought. Whoops.
4. Lolwuts and noobs that want to impress start stirring and create a hostile atmosphere on the forum towards the base building group (who did do something stupid in my book - but not something that other groups and official factions haven't done before with little to no issue), lolwuts and noobs that want to troll join in the fun on both sides.
5. Zoners both sides acting like it's the annual epeen contest (honestly you should go to O74 and listen into the Zoner-on-Zoner banter, it's like the school yard), no solution can be found.
6. .............
7. We all lose.
I find it absolutely justified that Corsairs and Order shoot that base, just like Outcasts should have shot Mal FP. I do find it unjust that ZA cannot be allowed to act foolish, when TAZ can.
EDIT: On a positive and pro-active note I do think the best thing would be if one Zoner group negotiated a treaty with Corsairs and Order, had other Zoner parties agree on it, and then declared ownership of O-74 along with martial law - let Order and Corsairs gun down everything that moves in O74 until those bases are gone; and afterwards this Zoner group could take control of O74 and enforce those rights negotiated with Corsairs and Order in the treaty. Sure Zoners as a whole would lose a bit of sovereignty, but the rule of law in Omicron-74 would be enforceable and the new owners could build some nice RP out of it, and be the first Zoner group with more dimensions than just one.
Eh, looks like I wasn't far from getting it right, just sans the usual factionsfactionsfactions flavor, Simon. I bet in-game zoner-on-zoner banter is even more entertaining than what ends up at forums here. A few times I had a chance of witnessing that in-game, but not much. At that time it made me wonder if some folks are doing this on purpose, a tingling feeling there that it ain't just blockheadiness but actual intent. And now it openly turned into a power struggle over system ownership... which brings me to wonder where and when it all began.
edit: "7. We all lose." - I don't know. Depends on who got what at stake with the situation. InRP none my characters have any particular interest there, hence the absence of participation. ooRPly - struggling to find any reasons to care much, just a few ideas about adjusting game mechanics and PoBs but that's a whole different topic. I'm kinda indifferent but slightly curious.

There were no need for other lolwuts and noobs to create that hostile atmosphere, the base builders did that themselves, and still doing so. Also point me towards any precedence of such happening to this degree and I may believe you they weren't the first to do this.

The two cases are different and barely comparable. We have been discussing this already, so in short I'll say just this: the main difference between the cases is that TAZ were cooperative with the ones superior to them while ZA are still not to this day. It's not about official or unofficial factions as you may want to imply, rather how diplomatic the owners are.

Makes a big bow.. And feels honored.
But yes in general it should be an RP tool Not a tool of mass destruction how some use it. Also if you use those platforms make sure you use em inRP not ooRP.

His list is quite wrong but np.
He missed the point of the other factions playing with their?? balls while 4 zoner bases level 4 are built. The said "offended" factions could have tried to get base access passwords, show their fleets and teeth before it is too late. If one builds a fort in your backyard you might want to check on him before he deploys the big guns towards your house right?
May be the answer is there: http://discoverygc.com/forums/serverinte...ion_status
I bet that in order to build and maintain 4 such bases ZA should have more activity then 95% of the official factions- point that is neglected in his list. So instead of posting shit better come up with idea where the siege party invests the same amount of time to destroy the bases that the base builders invested and be done with this problem.
I wont even comment that 74 is some unpopulated shop system and that such base guns are easy to dodge.
If you all haven't fuelled it that much you would be able to kill those bases quite easy just by waiting till the owners forget to resupply them properly once. This works at 100% however you need a bunch of reliable player numbers- something that the said attackers are lacking so all that is left to them is to bark at the forums.
In order to force your RP over others you need guns. It worked quite well for me back in the times with the Mollys. Taxing anyone in the ZoI for anything, inclusive base owners and they all paid because the guns, numbers and organisation were there if one refused. "Neutrals"- Zoners/Miners and similar folks have similar action pattern-lack of PvP skill, cap spamming and a lot of trade ships- the best way to make them respect you is to hunt and annihilate their kind for week or two. After the 10-20 blue msgs and each ship of theirs dieing 5-10 min after logging they start to get the point and to agree with your forced RP, the other options is to disband or to change the ZoI. If it is a base well kill it before it gets to core 2 or even before it gets shields, kill all the suppliers or demand password controls. All of this is quite possible if you have the numbers, guns and organisation.
None can claim or demand anything nowadays without actually show guns, numbers and organisation in-game, no matter official or not. In base case it is not that hard- get 37 cerb battleships, shoot 10 hours and kill it- the official factionised ZA haters should bring this number and keep it on in order to kill 1 base, rinse and repeat 3 more times- if you fail doing so you forum bark only.
If one group have the said qualities- they does not need to care about other groups demands and agree upon their forced RP.
There is the huge difference between forum barking and in-game enforcing of your RP. Now you can continue with the barking.
