The truth is that 80% of even the high tech stuff is still hand made, it is hand made because it is just cheaper not that if machines make it it wont be better, same story here, instead of waiting people to show interest and start to learn things and get ignored in the process they could just structure their "to do"s and find people to do it instead them. The effort to write proper tutorial how to do certain thing is for sure the same as doing the thing ONCE but not the same as doing it 100 times.
90% of the repetitive work could be delegated,
Development could be open and the current team could act like bunch of head developers (read managers) that just need to control the quality of the work and set the frame, nothing more or less.
Good example would be if faction X wants new ships now X must lick some asses or have luck to have someone that can model in their faction, if the Devs make proper rules what can come into mod together with proper tutorials how to make ships and stuff then X can do it by themselves and save the Head Devs ton of time.

And before the dev team jumps in here and tells us that if we think it's so easy, why don't we do it... okay. There are a fair number of us who would happily take over if you want out that badly, devs.
I did do it.
...
And you're spot on.
I'll go now, before I wear out my welcome (I'm not sure I had any to start with but..)
The main problem with the dev team is how rest of the community like to sit on their high horses and lecture about how they can do this and that within a week and get a new version ready within a couple of months, but never actually stepping up to do anything, or coming up with a random excuse to get out of doing anything actually useful when they're offered a chance to help. All the talk about "step aside so we take over and show you how it's properly done" is also the typical ego-centered internet behavior where people who can't actually do a thing just want the position and the attention of being the "lead dev" and can't bear the shame of being "a nobody who actually gets stuff done".
The current dev team is far from perfect and far from active, no argue with that, but with the whole community simply sitting, watching and whining about how "they" can do it better while actually not doing a thing... My question is - Why are you even surprised? Complaining for the sake of complaining topped off by their egos pretty much results in threads like this popping up every now and again, and even when offered a chance to contribute something to the community as a whole, same people who post in these sorts of threads simply chicken out by saying random crap like "things will go nowhere with the current people in charge" or "there's no way I'll join a team with person X and Y in it", and naturally nothing will get done long as you're putting your personal importance and egoboost above the actual progress of the mod.
I joined the dev team with absolute zero deving experience (in FL, at least), and unlike what people think or say, no one dragged me in. I bugged them long enough to show them I'm actually serious about this and want to help get stuff done, and they finally let me in. I'm also not saying I'm doing a perfect job right now, as I've done nothing of the sort in the past and clearly didn't have the needed experience for it when I joined, but at least I'm getting the job done and working my way through stuff that come up as things go. I could've as easily joined the "Lets complain and do nothing" club, but that would've meant the 4.87 balance (Which was taken care of in less than a week) would've still been pending.
We don't have a DevDetector™ tool to pinpoint the capable members in the community, and with all the senseless bragging, no one can be sure if people can actually do what they claim they can do... So unless people man up and realize the actual progress of the mod comes above their pretty little feelings and cute chocolate-flavored need for attention, nothing will change as the current dev team is already doing what they can with the very limited number they have. So maybe for a change, instead of going "I can do this and that better" actually show that you can do this and that, and then sit and watch if your capabilities are ignored by the team.
P.S: Yes, 4.87 is already wrapped up and ready for release. It's actually been sitting there like that for some time now. You also know well enough what's the reason behind this delay, so for once go blame the ones actually in fault instead of the dev team.

Why not release it?The problem in question is only related/quarantined to those who play on main discovery server..if the problem can be fixed ,an automatic update will work just well in feature..if not..your/devs work would not be in vain..

No, I think he means that the hacker problem only involved the main disco and that holding back the new mod because of our troubles can hurt the other servers.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

I'm not sure if that's a good idea, because wouldn't that be exactly what they want? Making people go mad and rage?
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that the devs or the admins are to blame, but feeding the trolls isn't the right way either imo.

yes that's one of the things i meant..somehow i got misunderstood..
Quote:But seeing as this is the forums for the main server, we care about protecting 87 from the hackers on the main server, not what happens to the others.
If the hackers got the details of 87 before a way could be found to stop them, itd probly make the job harder.
87 changes has nothing to do with anti-cheat..if and when a way to prevent that is found an update can be pushed..
but the way looting is logged,on each character folder's from what i know,we could expect a restore to the time before DPC have figured out how to cheat,or a complete wipe..
If not..too much time would have to be spend in order to track down the billionaires and some may get away since some items are not logged[from what i've been told]
So..this is why i prefer spending more time on X3 TC/AP than playing on disco and waiting for X3 rebirth/star citizen, since i have no hope for this to be fixed before those releases, which is really soon...
