I've just been looking through the various changes that .87 has brought and I couldn't help noticing that each faction is becoming more and more generic from an RP point of view.
Every pirate faction has gone from desparately trying to survive to having the full strength of the Houses both technolgically and in population density. Now they can field warships, cruisers and gunboats because all the limiting factors that gave them personality have been magically RP'd away.
Same with the Zoners, just look at the recent thread and it'll soon become clear that no one knows what a Zoner is any more.
I can understand that people want to fly different ships for whatever reason, the problem is ships and weapons are the only way to give factions personality simply because they effect the gameplay.
Radical changes need to be made before "RP" becomes just a formality.
I am writing a post about the way Junkers are turning into what the Zoners were in 84...

Almost like the more restrictions people get, the more they want new stuff, since the stuff is then available only for the faction pretty much, so every faction needs its own caps and shipline and such.
But yes, it seems like most people forgot what which faction actually stood for. It's a problem most visible with the Zoners, but it's around in many factions. Sad when even the officials forget what their faction can do and what they can't do iRP...
You're right Croft, but only with assumption this is a hardcore RP server, what's obviously untrue. Sadly, the sooner you stop caring about such things, the better.

I would hardly call giving factions their personality back "hardcore RP" if anything its the backbone of an RP server. The Mollys for example, their entire existance is based upon claiming Dublin, you could easily grant them the system which wouldn't effect the mod in the slightest but it would rob that faction of it's personality.
Apathy gets us no where, I'd much rather try and change things.

Equality is the destroyer of games, if everything was equal there would be no underdogs, no rebellions, no tyrants or villians. Without inequality we would have no heroes or heroines, everything would be bland and uninteresting.

Huh, so its obvious to mods already? This place sure traveled sad route in past few years.
But I do agree, almost every RP person has either stoped caring or left at this point. I don't even know what is more sad: people who claim no problem exists or those who put it on some trivial thing, and make things worse in process of fixing it.

I've only been in one faction, but joining another faction worries me as the rp seems to be too controlled - I like to be fairly freeform about how I rp. I think this is part of the problem
I find it a bit strange that you'd make such a thread when things have become more restrictive tech wise since you've been gone, and no small factions have gotten any new large ships.
As far as the actual roleplay goes I haven't really noticed many changes there either. Same old day in and day out. Nobody ever knew what a Zoner was, nor should they be a thing in the game in my opinion. (Why are you representing a group supposed doing it's best to hide from the major powers of Sirius when all points of interest will inevitably revolve around them?)
The Liberty Navy still shoots pirates, the pirates still make up lame excuses for being on the lanes, the revolutionaries still spew propaganda, and the Rheinlanders are still krauts.
If anything I'd enjoy a bit of change, though that isn't the easiest thing to make happen in Disco.
