If they make Zapper turrets do what infocard says, it'd be not that bad. Combined GB wing would be a force, half ships with anti-fighter setup, other half with anti-cap setup.
And the price of buying and equipping one GB is the problem as well. That ships simply don't worth that money now. With ship's price lowered, there could be a slight possibility to see GB wings somewhere again. Even gunships with AU8, why not!
The game needs more money sinks instead of fewer. So lowering ship prices will not work.
Also: who cares about money anyway? Everybody who has been here for a bit has enough billions to pretty much make every ship he wants whenever he wants it.
About the Gunboat:
I would say: re-run the tests once the shield bubble is up again. The big strength of the GBs was that they could practically insta-deshield snubs and chip hull off if the snubs were too cheeky and came too close.
This ability has not been nerfed, the range just has been shortened, it seems. Solarizer turrets should still work great and with a shield bubble and fixed snub hitboxes, it should actually be a pretty capable weapon again. I suspect heavily that the uselessness at the moment comes from the difficulty that every ship has when it comes to dropping shields. That will be gone, soon.

I have an idea: give each GB(maybe not gunship) cruiser heavy slot.
So gunboats can go around with one cruiser cerb as anticap/antitransport weapon and rest solarises as antisnub.
Or use Cruiser Shock Ray to instakill VHFs.

We have that as GB forward gun...
but nomad GB have all cruiser slots..or is that just bad cruiser whit GB shild?
