So has anyone had the chance to test out the new Civilian Gunboat yet? Just wondering for people's thoughts on how it compares to the Explorer. Obviously the Explorer has the extra turret and massive wings, making it vulnerable from above. But the Civvy GB is very wide and flat to, to looks like it could face a similar challenge.
There are 2 civil gbs, you need to be more specific. The BW one and the Condor.

Aye I was referring to the "Condor" Civilian GB. While technically true that BW tech is just as open as civvy, it has criminal connotations. Hence my referring to the Condor. Although people's thoughts on it to would be nice.
The Condor is pretty nice, a bit easier to use for most players and more flexible.
The Ahoudori Explorer is a very unique ship. It turns slower than some cruisers, is one of the largest gunboats, and has less hull than many light gunboats. Because of this, it is completely defenseless against capital ships which it is too slow to fly circles around like other gunboats, leaving it slow and weak for their heavy shots to destroy.
However, its unique shape makes it pretty effective at dodging fire from gunboats, transports, freighters, bombers, and fighters. It also has seven turrets, all of which fire forwards and six of which can fire sideways and backwards. I would consider it as having some of the best arcs in the game compared to other gunboats, giving it quite an edge. In addition to a good amount of turrets and great arcs, it also has the 600k power plant of a heavy gunboat, allowing it to easily sustain fire with whatever weapons you use on it (I would advise not using pulses or razors on this boat, it really doesn't work well with them despite having a nice power plant to support them).
The Condor is much faster, and still has pretty good arcs, with six turrets forwards, and 4/5 in most directions. Its shape and size are pretty much the usual for a gunboat, making it very easy for any player to get used to. All-in-all, the Condor doesn't have as many advantages as the Ahoudori, however it also has less weaknesses and is easier to fly while the Ahoudori takes a lot of love and mastering to use properly.
If you are concerned with the possibility of engaging capital ships, do not use the ahoudori; even in group fights, it is simply too slow to avoid fire from capital ships effectively and does not have enough hull to take the amount of heat it receives.
