They should allow people to continue the RP of the previous owner. But this means they have to be absolutely sure the previous owner is not coming back. Or if he is, he lost his right to the RP. Just saying.
I really think the devs shouldn't use up precious time and effort to make stuff only for one or two special snowflakes, especially in times like this. Extensive RP works on regular ships as well.
on the point of taking up dev time im saying that it would take no time of theirs at all. ive modded freelancer before. i can do all the legwork that putting a ship in the game requires.

I think anyone willing to learn how to mod this old game and create content (most important feature) if sensible should be considered for SRP approval. just like Star Citizen will be doing, if the ship meets standards (rp too), it should be allowed.
that would create more player interaction, more interest in this old game, stimulate peoples imagination pushing them to learn new skills and help keep this boat afloat much longer.

If serious work has been presented as a submission for new mod content, the least that I can do as a Dev is review that and provide feedback on if and how that work can be integrated with the mod.
I remember trying to get An Old finisht model back in the game. One which was competed. A design used As a former unique ship. This to be used As a faction ship. For An faction existing for a long time. So sorry If i dont believe certain responses of devs/admins in here.

The problem with these requests is, that if we allow it for one person, we'll have to allow it for everyone. And it gives people who have modeling skills a leg up over other players in that they are the only ones who can create such custom ships. Add to that that for each unique ship you'd need to define a sellpoint, package, stats, shiparch entry, hitbox AND update those each time there's a change to the way things are handled... it will quickly make maintaining the mod an idiotically large task. And while that is possible to do, us devs want to keep our workload to a minimum as well. People have, for the past 2 mods, complained about release intervals. Bloating the mod further would only stretch those intervals further. That's why I'll, as long as I'm model lead, will block unique ships. It's a mod maintenance issue, not a "you can't have nice pewsticks" issue.
We already have more ship types in the mod then the server will support in playercount.

people complain about bloating the mod with 485038457 systems that will never have anyone in them and that nobody gives a crap about. thats what people complain about. and by doing this in every new mod release you make more work for yourselves and managing the mod becomes an idiotically big task because you have to constantly mod five hundred million barren systems that nobody gives a fuck about but you still will anyone, take the entire of gallia as the prime example of this.
I dont think anyone would complain about mod release times if their hard work (or the hard work of fellow community members outside the mod/dev/admin circle were to be included because that means if they wanted to they also could have something a little special if they put the work in.
and yes so what if modellers have an advantage? humans are capable of learning, if they learn how to do the things required then they will not only benefit greatly from just that alone, but also be able to show their progress to others around them, and will also liven up the server with more veriety of ships.
you have split cap guns, you have split fighter guns, what else could there be that will mean modifying a ship once its been put in the game? and if necessary you tell the creators of the custom content they are to do the modifications themselves as instructed by the dev team, and if they dont it will changed to a starflier in the next mod version.
Im sure if there was incentive to be a more proactive member of the community, to improve ones RP in the light of potentially being able to have something unique come from it nobody would be that upset.
I'd say, if Disco would be comercial project... you could have every ship from
Vostok-1 to Iperial Start Destroyer.
It's free for use, so.... you not loosing anything, except your time playing it. Don't like it, just quit- very simple. It's Nr 1 answer to any complaints about mod being stupid, crapy made, badly balanced and everything. Free for use as it is.
