The file simply vanishes without any visible reason as to why. It's not the Anti-Virus as it has been removed (AVG did not fix the problem either, my normal is bitdefender)
I saw the program install, I saw the update go through without a hitch. I then opened the file and saw the DSAce.dll in the folder, it stayed for about 20 seconds, then suddenly disappeared from the file. The file then will not allow me to transfer the DSAce.dll in manually. I get a message saying "You need permission to access EXE". It is only the one DLL file it does this to, I have been able to play with everything else without a problem. If I do a complete uninstall, then reinstall from scratch, the file appears, but then disappears about 20 seconds later and then locks the file from allowing me to place anything named DSAce.dll into it after update 4 installs, until then, the file is not touched.
Since their isn't an anti-virus to be causing this, the only other thing I can think of is it is Windows itself. I have windows 7 64bit, could it be auto deleting the file then locking it out thinking it is some dangerous program?
Another note, their is an identically named DSAce.dll file in the original Freelancer folder that the computer is not having a problem with. If I try to move it into the Discovery one I get the same message as listed above.
Since the original 4.87 downloaded and updates 1-3 did not cause the computer to hate the file, I have to assume something new was done in Update 4. Can you tell us what was incorporated into this version of the file that was different from the previous ones?
Edit: I have made it on. Possible Solution for those running no Anti-Virus.
It turns out there is another built in program to the Windows system that kills this file. When hunting around the machine, I discovered a new anti-virus was being activated when I turned my Anti-Virus (Bitdefender) off called Windows Defender.
Windows Defender is a built in Windows Anti-Virus and Firewall program (At least on Windows 7). If you are not running any Anti-Virus or you have turned off your normal one, the computer will automatically (and in my case I found) silently turn it on. It will then proceed to delete the DLL and Lock the file from accepting it ever again without alerting you to it doing so.
I had to manually keep Windows Defender turned off while I placed the bypasses into Bitdefender and then turned it back on. This then turned Windows Defender back off and stopped removing the DLL.
I don't know if Windows Defender allows for bypasses to be placed in it as well but this program will kill the DLL file. If you don't know how to work this program (I personally don't), then I suggest going with the AVG solution mentioned below as it will also kill Windows Defender and AVG lets you write in the bypass
Note: Simply adding in the update manually was not sufficient in my case once the initial deletion occurred as by that point it locks the file down. Do a full uninstall, then reinstall the game and write the exceptions in BEFORE you preform the update 4. That should avoid the file being deleted again.
Devs, Moderators and Admins, thank you again for the help it trying to track this down. I hope this gives the last piece needed for people to get this to work properly
