Bah, you make it sound like there's a federation of factions out there who's sole purpose is to crush RM. If Corsairs are flying around on Hessian turf then RHA and the collective Bunds (and LWB?) have a responsibility to kick them out too. As for Liberty... that story will hopefully develop based on player input, and with RM being such a strong and active clan it's got the potential to be the coolest thing EVAR! I can't see grumbling about being given the spotlight.

RM get more then their fair share of combat. We've got Corsairs (Both official and the far more numerous independents) from Sigma 13 almost constantly, the Hessians (Again, official and non) from Dresden, the official Unioners have left, so that's a bit of a break (Nothing against 'em, just too many other hostiles), then there's the quite possible war with Liberty...
I'm not against a Bundschuh faction, despite the fact that I think the Bundschuh wouldn't be around anymore (Come on, you can -see- the main base from the trade-lanes!), what I'm against is yet another force fighting the RM. Before you know it, we'll just get buried under three or four factions with 5 members in each, about 15 different independants, and suddenly New Berlin is just constantly under siege from Hessians, Unioners, Corsairs, Bundschuh, Blood Dragons, Outcasts, Mollys, Junkers, Zoners, and then the Liberty Navy shows up and wins the war because the pirates decide that they dislike the RM more then they dislike the Liberty guys.
I'm inclined to say that the QCRF needs the attention better. Also, I think that the Red Hessians should be more active than the Bundschuh in Rheinland. It will just feel odd to have daily attacks from the Bundschuh when you see the Red Hessians perhaps every three days.
The fact that Bruschal is "visible" from the tradelanes won't help this interaction. Vogtland is something we can "ignore" in a RP and in a practical sense. "Bruschal" is way too close to the TLs, Holstein, Koblenz and even the Mainz crossing to be left alone. I agree when Kane says that the Bundschuh would be gone by now. Either in their essence or their base would be no more.
I (as RM) was contacted by one of your guys, right after I first heard of this faction proposal. He asked me what I thought about you starting creating the characters before it was discussed in the forums. I told him I thought it would be a good idea to wait and see where it was going. Five minutes later I started seeing new [BU] tagged characters. I know that when you have a new idea is difficult to just let it put it in the drawer for a couple of weeks before getting a go in it, but from that I'm inclined to think what you want here is just the go and the acknowledgment, not really the feedback to help shape your faction. I sure hope I'm completely wrong in this.
Also, already over that whole incident, but still using one detail from it as an example. When we were attacked by the BU in Sabres and Lokis/Thors and a Red Hessian showed up in an Eagle, I have to say something was out of place there.
Also, I expect more than forum political discussions to grant you the feel of strongly political activists. Jumping the military forces at the first opportunity doesn't really make you any different than the next pirate. Last time the SCRA came to New Berlin and I was in command, I had a whole political argument with them which took at least some 10-15 minutes in RP before the first shot was fired and that only happened because unfortunately I happened to have a too anxious independent as backup against them. I expect every action from a political activist/terrorist to be taken in order to make a statement. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the responsibility of promoting that environment and feel around your faction and your actions goes back to you. You are playing those guys. Mindlessly attacking the RM? We've got enough of that already, thank you.
My interpretation of the difference between an "official" faction to a unofficial one is that the official factions are much more committed to promote and enforce an above standard sense of game play and contribute to the server through that. It means that, first thing, they will monitor themselves. Faction leaders and ranked members will constantly look to the newer guys and check if their behavior, their equipment, their ships are in accordance to the RP they proposed for starters and what they understand and recognize as being sound. That they will somehow contribute outside of their own ranks, by helping directing new players in the server towards those standards of RP and game play, sometimes including those people to their own, sometimes directing them towards other factions or activities. When I look at all those new official faction proposals I'm inclined to wonder if the "official" faction status means anything else than just status.
That is why I stayed awake until 5 in the morning with the last RM recruit I trained. So he would be fully tagged and IDed and would be allowed to play his character. Because if he didn't have that we wouldn't let him. In the meantime, I will give a hard time to any RM recruit not wearing a Trader ID to fit his ship. And I'm not even close to the command of the RM. A player looking forward to lead an official faction must be ready to take at least that kind of responsibility.
I think a few questions here are at hand:
1. Are the more prominent factions of the ZoI you are about to operate in already represented the way they should be?
2. Is your leadership and starting player base prepared to promote and keep an ambiance of RP that will clearly mark and make stand out your faction apart from the other factions and groups already in operation at that ZoI?
3. What compromises to game play are you willing to take in order not to become a hindrance to the other factions in operation at that ZoI?
4. What sort of in game RP contributions do you plan to make apart from just attacking the military? Can you point out and elaborate on a few?
5. Why not join the Red Hessian established faction?
6. Why not promote game in the two less occupied Houses of Sirius (Bretonia and Kusari)?
I'm not sure you will understand what I'm about, but this is what I meant when I said the official factions must go beyond their internals and strive to promote an interesting and positive environment around them. I'm doing my best here to make sure that's what happens with your addition in Rheinland. To do so, I have to be completely honest and perhaps even blunt in pointing things out.
This may be taken by you as I (we) not wanting the competition, but that's at best a very simplistic view of things. When I first joined the RM, the RHA was still led by Morrigan. Not that LancerZero didn't do a good job with the RHA, but for some reason coincidentally when Morrigan left the faction lost its impulse. I'd love to see the RHA flourish once again, not only because they are a more "militaristic" oriented faction (and as such RM's more direct contesters), but also because they'd help in kicking all the Corsairs out of Rheinland space. The Worker's front (the [W]s) also promoted a dispute with the RM without harassing us with PvP. They would alternate between attacking the borderline of Liberty and when they came to Rheinland, they hardly came to NB. They would go after the RepEx security division and RM also alternatively. And those guys were very good fighters, but they were above all, very good RPers. If you read their reports, they would come to New Berlin to strike at the NPCs just so they could make a nifty report on the attack.
I reinforce what all of the RM guys are saying. We already have our share of PvP in Rheinland.
"I had a whole political argument with them which took at least some 10-15 minutes in RP before the first shot was fired and that only happened because unfortunately I happened to have a too anxious independent as backup against them"
My fault Gronath, sorry. :(
A little thing I want ot add to his statement is that In-Game RP > Forum RP. Refer to my sig, "Make sure others are having as much fun as you are"
Creampuff, I hate to admit it but some days I wonder if there is a coalition of players out to squash the RM. We keep getting the oddest sort of people down that way, like the aforementioned Outcasts, Blood Dragons, and Mollys, that seriously makes me sit back and think.
Of course, you are right in a way; it's not the RM they want to squash. It's their reputation that they want to bolster. It's the bragging rights, fairly similar to the Phantoms. We're good pilots. Better then most. So when we do die, as is to be expected from time to time, a big deal gets made out of it. And heaven forbid we should ever not have a presence around New Berlin. We'll be bombed back to the stone age with them in command of the planet before you can say, as some of my British friends do, "Bob's your uncle."
This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren
The members of the "State Shoe" are not supposed to be ace pilots, or pilots dying for some action...
They are university students and intellectuals who want to reform Rheinland. They are never, I repeat, never going to do something like going after RM and assaulting them, unless it's some special occasion(RPing someone got captured, etc...)
The only way I can see this faction flying is if you continually come up with new ideas and RP events.
